SNAPPER SWIM TEAM 2019


Members of the Beach Club are invited to join the swim team! Snapper swimmers range in age and skill level.  At the start of the season, swimmers must be at least 5 years old and able to swim the full length of the pool independently. See practice times and ages below, register per swimmer for just one option.

All Snapper swimmers will get a t-shirt, towel, award and great coaching!  

Practice is Monday through Friday. No PM practices on home meet Wednesdays.

Caleb is the Snapper’s head swim team coach! He loves swimming and it’s been a big part of his life since he was 4. He swims on the Mizzou swim team and is majoring in Sports Management. He loves being in the water and enjoys teaching kids the art of swimming. Caleb and his coaching team are excited for this season and are ready to meet this year’s swimmers!

Brenna is the Snapper’s assistant swim team coach! Brenna is graduating from Mizzou in May with a degree in Health Sciences. Brenna was a competitive swimmer for 8 years, coached for the Jefferson City YMCA Barracudas last year, and has years of experience in teaching swim lessons. She specialized in breaststroke, distance freestyle, and the IM.

Piper is a senior at Rock Bridge where she swam and ran at the Varsity level all 4 years. She was also part of 2 State Swim Championships. She began swimming in summer league at the age of 6. This is Piper’s 3rd season coaching for the Snappers! She’s excited to have another fun filled summer with new kids and looks forward to sharing the joy of swimming!

Emily started her swim career as a Snapper 10 years ago! She swam competitively for 5 years and she currently swims for Rock Bridge High School. She started out as a volunteer helping with little swimmers and last year she became an Assistant Swim Coach for the Snappers. Her favorite strokes are freestyle and backstroke and she can’t wait for the season to begin!

All Star Meet Thursday July 11th @Hickman
 
Who can go?
Swimmers 7 and older who qualify at the District Meet in one of these ways:
  • Placing in top 6 in an event at the district meet @CCMO
  • Being in the 2 fastest Beach Club free relays for their age group
  • Being in the 2 fastest Beach Club medley relays for their age group
  • Across the entire league (all 8 teams), having one of the next fastest 6 times outside of the top places 
When will I know if my child is participating?
No later than Tuesday morning. Relays for All Stars will not be finalized until Tuesday, but if your child is on the A or B relay for Districts, there is a very good chance they will remain on that relay for the All Star Meet. Entries will be sent out Tuesday @5pm

What time is warm up?
Be at the pool 3-3:15PM Warm ups will start at 3:25PM

When does the meet start end?
5:00PM

Do you need volunteers? 
Yes! I am the sole person in charge of getting all spots filled (help!). I will send out a sign up genius to all teams on Saturday once relays have been finalized. 
 
6 and unders will NOT participate in the All-Star meet, instead, the District meet will be their championship meet and they will be given medals for top 3 finishes.
 
Top 6 swimmers in each district event + next fastest 6 in the league will compete in all-star meet (18 total per event).
 
Top 2 Beach Club relays in each relayed event will compete in the All-Star Meet
 
Swimmer must attend an average of 2 practices per week and compete in 2 meets prior to the All-Star Meet.
SHOW ME CONFERENCE RULES

Swimmers ages 7 and over will be disqualified for the following infractions:

Butterfly

  • Swimmer must touch the wall with two hands simultaneously at the turn and finish.

  • All up and down movements of the legs and feet must be simultaneous.  A scissor, flutter or breaststroke kicking movement is not permitted.

Backstroke

  • Race must be finished on the back

  • 11 & Older 50s: If a swimmer performs a backstroke flip-turn they must only take one freestyle stroke before they start to flip.

Breaststroke

  • Swimmer must touch the wall with two hand simultaneously at the turn and finish.

  • The swimmer’s head must break the surface on each stroke, with the exception of the underwater pullout from the start and turn.

  • Kick: All movements of the legs shall be simultaneous and in the same horizontal plane without alternating movement. The feet must be turned outwards during the propulsive part of the kick. Scissors, alternating movements or downward butterfly kicks are not permitted

Freestyle

Swimmers may not push off the bottom.

Individual Medley

All above rules to be followed.

Turns must follow rules above

  • Two hand touch on Fly

  • Finish on back for backstroke (no flipturns permitted)

  • Two hand touch for breaststroke

All Strokes: The correct stroke must be swum from start to finish

False Starts:

  • Races will be recalled for false starts. If the same swimmer performs a second false start in the same race, they will be disqualified.

  • During regular season meets, if swimmers cannot be stopped – the coaches can decide to let that heat rest and swim later.

PRIVATE & SEMI PRIVATE LESSONS

Does your swimmer need a little extra time with a coach?  Maybe they need some help with a specific stroke or some refinement of their starts and turns.  Private lessons may be just what your swimmer needs.  You can even get a couple of friends together and take advantage of our semi private lessons.  This is going to be a great year of swimming for our Snappers!

30 min sessions = $30 per private lesson

40 min sessions = $20 per semi private (2 to 3 swimmers)
