SPECIALTY CLASSES & WHAT TO BRING

*Specialty Classes are $7.50 + tax for any Wilson’s member and $15.00 + tax for non-members. HH = Happy Hour Classes are $5.00 + tax for members and non-members.

Contact MEMBER SERVICES to find out how to add Specialty Classes (those marked with *) to your membership and enroll for free.

  1. Please bring a water bottle to all classes to stay hydrated.
  2. Yoga mats are required for yoga and barre classes.
  3. Aerobics specific shoes are recommended for cardio classes and S.P.D. cycling shoes are recommended for cycling classes.
  4. Schedule is subject to change due to low attendance, instructor injury or instructor availability.
  5. Inclement weather policy: Please call ahead for changes to due weather.

Classes have been set up to complement each other. Please feel free to attend more than one class to achieve overall fitness.

*SPECIALTY CLASS ENROLLMENT:  (Regular classes do not require enrollment)  Advanced booking is encouraged for Specialty Classes and is available one week prior to class.

  1. Enroll online or at your club.
  2. No refunds are given for cancellations less than two hours prior to class time.
  3. If you have not enrolled prior to arriving at the club, you may be placed on a waiting list until 5 minutes before class begins.
  4. Once you arrive at the club, please check in at the front desk and receive a wristband which will be collected by the instructor prior to the start of class.
  5. All participants must have signed in 5 minutes prior to start of class to ensure their spot. This is for your safety to get acclimated to the heat as well as to open space for those on the waiting list. If you have not checked in 5 minutes prior to class, your spot will be given to the next person on the waiting list and no refunds will be given.
  6. For those whose membership includes unlimited free specialty classes, a cancellation fee of $5 will be assessed to your account for any class cancelled less than 2 hours prior to class. A $5 cancellation fee will also be assessed if you are too late to attend or don’t show up for class.

A fitness instructor since 2015, Shelby is certified in Les Mills CxWorX and GRIT, Stages Flight, and YogaFit Level 1.  She currently teaches CxWorX, Fusion, Warm Iron Yoga, and Flight.  She chose to become an instructor because she thinks “Group Fitness is awesome – it is the best way to work out, and I wanted to be able to deliver that experience to others!”  She loves the participants in class and the energy they bring.  If a regular doesn’t show up, she automatically gets bummed out.  “They don’t realize I count on them as much as they count on me!”

Shelby played competitive sports growing up, and into her adult years she started to run marathons and compete in triathlons.  She has been fortunate enough to work with and rehabilitate people with cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, and other chronic illnesses.  She has a passion for what she does, but… in her dream life, she is actually a professional chef and coffee barista – she loves good food and coffee!

Betty is certified through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in Group Fitness, Les Mills in RPM and BodyVive, and has trained for BOSU and TRX. A fixture at Wilson’s Fitness since 1996, her teaching career began in the early 80’s. She’s taught multiple formats, including step, ‘slide’ and group racquetball and currently teaches RPM and BOSU along with Hot Barre in the hot studio.

Though Betty was athletic as a child, her real start with fitness began when she was 29. After having her first child she began jogging to lose weight. Then she started running races. Then marathons, including the infamous Boston Marathon. She  also played competitive women’s racquetball, biked the MS 150 and took aerobics classes. Betty chose to become an instructor when coaxed by an instructor to channel her passion for working out. “I love sharing the knowledge I have acquired along the way and watching people see that fitness is fun; it gives you energy and makes you feel great!” She wants her members to get excited about living a healthy lifestyle and be good examples for their families and friends, too.

What Betty loves most is motivating people to believe they have an inner athlete, that they can become fitter, and it is never too late! Since she was almost 30 when she began, she inspires her participants simply by walking the walk. “If I can inspire just one person to get healthier each time I lead a class, then I am fulfilled. I have done the job that I love so much.”

Certified in Les Mills BodyStep, Katie has been teaching BodyStep at Wilson’s since 2010.  She first started teaching classes at The Health Connection in college when she was in physical therapy school.  She started taking BodyStep classes when she joined Wilson’s and enjoyed it so much, she signed up for a training.

She was prompted to become an instructor when one of her instructors, Lisa, told her that if she kept previewing the moves with her, then it was time to teach!  She enjoys teaching because she gets to see participants improve and progress.  In Katie’s classes, she’s very particular about the mechanics – “its the physical therapist in me!”

Darla Tharp is certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, BodyFlow, and BodyPump, and has been teaching at Wilson’s since January 2017. She developed a love of fitness, sports, and the outdoors at an early age.  In middle and high school, Darla participated in softball and basketball, ran as a sprinter on the track team, and took dance classes for fun.  In college, she continued to play softball and had a regular fitness routine that included running and resistance training.  After college her focus shifted to half marathons and triathlons. “I really enjoy mixing up my routine and trying different types of physical challenges which brought me to Wilson’s group fitness.  Attending classes in addition to running, biking, and swimming is a great way to increase strength, stamina, agility, and flexibility.”

Because four of Darla’s passions are physical fitness, music, teaching, and socializing, becoming a group fitness instructor was a natural fit. She loves helping others to reach their fitness goals and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle. “I feel blessed to be able to teach classes to the beat of funky music while being immersed in the energy of the wonderful people around me.  It is a great way to challenge my own fitness capacity as well as those who attend class.”

When Darla isn’t in the gym, she’s either doing scientific research at the University of Missouri or is at one of her son’s many sporting events.

Linda has been teaching all her adult life. As a retired Spanish teacher with 41 years of experience teaching at the high school and university levels, (Hickman High School and University of Missouri, specifically), the classroom setting is second nature for her. Linda is certified with YogaFit in Levels I & II, and has taught yoga at Wilson’s since 2002.

For fun and exercise, she likes to bike, walk, and do her own yoga practice. And teaching is an extension of that. “I love teaching because I can see my students grow in their strength and appreciation of all the benefits of regular yoga practice. It’s rewarding to share my passion with others.” Linda says the best thing about teaching is when someone tells her how yoga has changed their life. She wants people to know that yoga is for everybody!

This is a safe and slower-moving class designed for seniors and people of all ages with physical challenges or those who might be recovering from an injury. Erica became an instructor so she could share her love of yoga, fitness, and movement with others.  She has been an instructor at Wilson’s since 2014, holding certifications in YogaFit Levels 1-4, Anatomy & Alignment, Senior Yoga, and Kids Yoga.  She currently teaches Fusion, Forever/Chair Yoga, and Yoga.

Erica began teaching classes in college, where she earned a degree in Parks & Recreation.  In addition to her extensive yoga background, she also has experience in aquatic fitness.  What Erica loves most about teaching is encouraging others to move their bodies and stay connected with their body, mind, & spirit.

For Travis, fitness is a way of life. A tennis player from a young age through high school, he now actively participates in triathlons. As of October 2018, he has completed 30+ triathlons of all different distances, including two Ironman distance races.
Travis uses indoor cycling and yoga to train for races year round. In RPM and Flight, the group atmosphere, the upbeat music, and the variations in the releases/profiles make the workouts challenging yet fun. Yoga has improved his overall lifestyle by reducing stress, reducing his chance for overuse injuries, and improving his mental focus.
When Travis decided to become certified to teach Les Mills RPM, Stages Flight and Yoga, he combined his cycling knowledge with a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training to become an authentic and well-rounded instructor with much to offer his members. Now he enjoys helping others reach their goals, facilitating fitness to enrich their lives the way it’s enhanced his own. He’s been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015.  “Don’t be intimidated to try a new class at Wilson’s. The instructors want to help you through, so if a class interests you, try it!”

This barre inspired workout is one of the fastest, most effective ways to burn calories and get toned! Yes, Hot Barre is centered around a ballet barre and inspired by the workout routine by ballet legend Lotte Berk, but the barre is simply there to provide stability, balance, and support as you move through exercises that target the core, glutes, arms, and legs. No dance experience necessary, you just need to know these three numbers: 95 degrees, 45 minutes, 800 calories! Not recommended during pregnancy. Please consult your physician.

In addition, Catina holds multiple certifications including, American Council on Exercise (ACE) Personal Trainer, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Primary Group Fitness, Flight,  KettleWorX, Aircat Aerial Yoga Certification, Les Mills BodyPump, BodyAttack, BodyFlow, BodyVive, BodyJam, BodyCombat, BodyStep, RPM, GRIT, and CXWorX, AFAA Wave I and II, AFAA Circuit, AFAA Kickboxing, AFAA Yoga, AFAA Pilates, Extreme Bootcamp Challenge, Riding the Edge Cycling, BOSU, KrankCycle, TRX,  Pilates, Animal Flow Level 1, and Aqua Fitness.

Group fitness kick started her active lifestyle and since she has completed a triathlon and many races, and become an IFPA Figure Competitor, KettleWorX Master Trainer, and YogaFit Master Trainer. “I love the training process. I love learning new things and always growing and improving.”

In 2014 Catina opened the Hot Studios at Wilson’s and designed the new formats, Hot Barre and Fusion exclusively for Wilson’s. She continues to choreograph new material for these programs on a regular basis. She says it is through the connections she makes with members that she is able to make life-changing experiences for them as well as find growth in herself. Catina lives each day with gratitude, in such a way that brings santosha, Sanskrit for contentment, to her life.

Jennifer Mullen is a board certified Doctor of Physical Therapy and Pilates instructor.  She joined the Wilson’s team in 2019 and teaches Pilates.  Jennifer believes her background in Physical Therapy gives her a unique perspective and the ability to optimize movement for a wide variety of people.  Jennifer has a passion for helping people get moving and stay moving for increased vitality and health.  She fell in love with fitness at the age of 18 and has been an active participant in group fitness since that time.  Jennifer enjoys all kinds of movement, including running (she has completed 5 half marathons and numerous other road races).  She loves Pilates for it’s ability to improve and enhance mobility, strength, and flexibility among other benefits.  “I love helping people learn to enjoy movement and see how it can positively impact their lives.”

Strike a balance of breath, postures and flow in a room heated to 95-100 degrees with radiant heat to create “tapas” (healing for your body, mind and spirit). Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga uses postures, breathing, and meditation to help ease pregnancy, delivery, and the after-effects of birth.  The class creates strength, focus, flexibility, and awareness through a gentle practice designed especially for the pregnant woman’s needs.  The class also helps postpartum women regain vitality and energy that may have been lost during pregnancy with specific focus on rebuilding strength in the abdomen, back, and pelvic muscles, releasing tension in the shoulders and neck, and opening the chest.  This class may use props, such as pillows and blankets, so please bring any items that will facilitate the most comfort.

Stefanie started at Wilson’s in 2017 after becoming certified in YogaFit Level 1.  She currently teaches Fusion, Yoga, and Kickboxing.  She has played sports all her life; she was most competitive in track and field and cross country and ran in college at UMKC.  Her emphasis was sprints and hurdles.  She currently still trains on the track and hopes to run Elite soon!

Stefanie became very interested in yoga and the way it made her body feel.  It seemed like a good fit with her active, healthy lifestyle, and she likes to share that with her classes.  She enjoys the challenge yoga brings her, especially when it’s a new class or release.  She likes to push herself out of her comfort zone.  Outside of Wilson’s, she has a wonderful and busy husband, and two little girls!

Meghan is the Group Fitness Assistant Director.  She is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, both through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). She also holds certifications in Oh Baby! Fitness (a pre- and post-natal exercise program); Les Mills BodyAttack, BodyPump and RPM; Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight; Pilates; YogaFit Level 1; and Animal Flow Level 1. She currently teaches BodyPump, RPM, Hot Barre, BodyAttack, Animal Flow, Kickboxing, and Pilates and takes personal training clients.

When she was pregnant with her first child, Meghan was 120 pounds heavier.  “I learned how quickly lifestyle and diet can get out of control.”  Meghan came to work (with her baby) in the Wilson’s playcenter in 2006.  Being in a supportive, healthy environment led to weight loss, fitness, and education.  In 2009 she became a personal trainer and was excited to help others.  She maintained a healthy diet and weight through her other three pregnancies, and her passion for exercise grew to encompass group fitness as well.

“I love motivating people to feel empowered and successful; to do something they didn’t think they could do, or be someone they didn’t think they could be.”  She also finds it uplifting to see the camaraderie that develops within a class, training session, and the gym community.

Jenna is certified in Les Mills BodyPump, BodyStep, Sh’Bam, and BodyVive. She’s been a group fitness instructor since 2000 when she taught step at Wilson’s in Jefferson City. Jenna has taught continuously since then, at Wilson’s in Columbia from 2000-2005 and from 2012 to present. Jenna currently teaches BodyPump and BodyStep.

Jenna decided to go into teaching because she loved taking group fitness classes and felt passionately about the benefits of exercise to mind, body and quality of life. “I wanted to share it with others and inspire them to make it part of their daily lives.”

Once she discovered and became certified in Les Mills classes, she’s never taught anything else. “I loved the professional choreography and great music the programs provide every quarter, as well as safe and effective workouts that deliver results.”

Robin is certified in KettleWorX, indoor cycling and TRX. Before becoming an instructor, Robin took spinning classes at Wilson’s in 2001 and fell in love with its intensity and cross training benefits. In high school she enjoyed competitive sports, especially basketball and volleyball. After marrying a runner in 1994, she slowly, but surely became serious about running. Starting in 2000 she has competed races of all distances including three marathons and several duathlons.

Robin has always been an athlete, but after she started her exercise routine and healthy eating as an adult, she lost 40 lbs. She wanted to help others and inspire them in ways that were personal to her. “I understand what it’s like to be self-conscious about body image and I want to help people in that struggle.”  When she became an instructor in 2007, she started with indoor cycling. And when she needed a new challenge, she found it with KettleWorX in 2014. Robin currently teaches KettleWorX and Hot Barre at Wilson’s.

“Teaching motivates me to live fitness as a lifestyle. It also challenges me both physically and mentally and I enjoy that added dimension of the workout. Plus, I really like being in charge!“ Above all, she loves her members and the friendships that have come from her classes. And she loves for new people to try her classes. Teaching gives her a chance to be a cheerleader for others in their fitness journey. “It is so exciting to see people transform their lives!” I love for new people to try my classes. I get excited to see new faces, especially at 5:30 a.m.!

She began her dance training at five years old when she was enrolled in ballet at her family’s church.  Around the age of eleven, she was enrolled in the Halcyone Ewalt Perlman School of Ballet, now the Perlman-Stoy School of Ballet (Mid-Missouri Dance Theatre), where she studied under the close tutelage of Halcyone Perlman and performed in yearly concerts from junior high through high school.  In addition to dance, Candace is very athletic and played volleyball from 7th-9th grade. In high school, she successfully auditioned and was accepted into the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.  Shortly after moving to New York City, she began professional dance training at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center where she studied ballet, West African, Modern, Horton, Dunham, dance choreography, and more. Today, Candace resides in Columbia, and is a licensed cosmetologist at Riversong Spa and Salon.  She is a guest instructor and choreographer at the Perlman-Stoy School of Ballet.  Candace is wife to husband, Eric, and mother to two precious children, Jamila and Xavier.

Working out and staying active helps Candace continue to do what she is very passionate about…dance.  Candace started teaching at Wilson’s in 2016 and earned her certification in Les Mills BodyAttack in 2017.  She currently teaches Hot Barre and BodyAttack. She is passionate about helping people achieve their goals and look their best. She would be elated to have you in any of her classes!

Kelli teaches BodyCombat and earned her certification through Les Mills in May 2015. In January of 2016, she attended Les Mills BodyAttack training and will add that certification to her list of qualifications. She’s also pursing a personal training certification through the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

Kelli played volleyball in high school and college and has always had a passion for staying fit and healthy. For years, she participated in classes. It was her admiration for her own instructors that influenced her to take the leap to become an instructor herself. “I love having a positive impact on so many people and helping them reach their goals. I know what it takes to motivate myself, so I try to project that to my members.” When not teaching classes, Kelli stays busy raising beautiful twin girls.

Raven started her fitness career at the Mizzou Rec when she took her first group fitness class and fell in love. She took their instructor training course her freshmen year of college and started teaching in 2015. She is an ACE certified Group Fitness Instructor and has most of her experience teaching cardio/strength. After joining Wilson’s in the summer of 2018, she began her Yoga Fit training and is currently working towards her 200 hour practice requirement. She believes that group fitness classes are the best way to learn form, find new movements and poses, and motivate oneself. The energy from each class and the opportunity to lead and create new workouts while improving lives keeps her passionate about instructing!  She currently  teaches Total Body Workout.

Raven recently graduated from the University of Missouri and works full-time as the office manager and director of college outreach for The District CID in downtown Columbia. You can find her working out most evenings at the Forum or District Wilsons!

Tristan joined the Wilson’s team in 2016.  Certified in Les Mills CxWorx, and Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, he currently teaches both.  Tristan grew up playing soccer and baseball, then wrestled and ran cross country in high school.  During college he continued strength training and long-distance running on his own and is now passionate about triathlons – last year, he completed his first Ironman!

After college, Tristan made a return to fitness and found some truly inspiring instructors at Wilson’s.  He was very motivated to make big lifestyle changes and wanted to become an instructor himself.  What he likes most about teaching is passing along knowledge and passion, inspiring others to push beyond what they thought they were capable of, and seeing them achieve their health and fitness goals.  He wants his members to know that he’s always there for them after class and is happy to talk, answer questions, and receive/give feedback.

Yinghui (“Susan”) has been teaching Yoga and Aerial at Wilson’s since 2018.  She is certified in YogaFit Level 1 and has been practicing yoga for 20 years.  Working in the technology field, she would stare at a computer for hours and thought yoga was only for very fit people.  Then she tried a free class and immediately fell in love with the mindset that everybody is a yoga body.  She was inspired by the authentic, non-judgemental teaching and the compassion-centered philosophy and so decided to begin her yoga journey!

Growing up with a family that practiced ancient Chinese Qigong meditations, Susan now weaves thought-provoking meditations and mindful movement throughout her classes.  She applies ancient wisdom to our contemporary western world in a useful and understandable way, leading others and herself to create dynamic harmony between yin and yang, and to walk the path toward a happier, healthier, and more conscious life.  She is passionate about teaching and sharing her yoga journey, as well as the benefits of yoga and aerial.

Susan feels that the most important rules of her life were learned from yoga:  #1 is the Mountain Pose; always stand tall with your shoulders back!  #2 is Child’s Pose; take care of ourselves  and connect body and brain, as our body is the child of our soul.  #3 is mindful breathing; regardless of what’s happening, the unconscious breath is the repetitive prayer that goes on continuously in all living creatures.

Amanda knows how to bring fun to fitness, and, as a former competitive swimmer, runner and rower, she knows how to push her body to the limit. Applying that combination to her teaching makes her members work hard and love every minute of it. Amanda has been teaching at Wilson’s since 2013 with a certification in Les Mills Sh’Bam. She also teaches Hot Barre in the hot studio.

Group fitness helped Amanda appreciate all her body does for her. “I wanted to be an instructor in hopes of giving back and helping others feel the same appreciation.” The best thing she likes about teaching is ‘getting goofy and sassy’ in order to put smiles on the faces of her participants. “I love getting to know members. If you ever want to talk fitness and fun, by all means, come talk to me.”

Jennifer Mullen is a board certified Doctor of Physical Therapy and Pilates instructor.  She joined the Wilson’s team in 2019 and teaches Pilates.  Jennifer believes her background in Physical Therapy gives her a unique perspective and the ability to optimize movement for a wide variety of people.  Jennifer has a passion for helping people get moving and stay moving for increased vitality and health.  She fell in love with fitness at the age of 18 and has been an active participant in group fitness since that time.  Jennifer enjoys all kinds of movement, including running (she has completed 5 half marathons and numerous other road races).  She loves Pilates for it’s ability to improve and enhance mobility, strength, and flexibility among other benefits.  “I love helping people learn to enjoy movement and see how it can positively impact their lives.”

Patty has been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015. She completed her 200 RYT and is certified in Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and Les Mills RPM and BodyPump.  She currently teaches Fusion, Gentle Flow, Hot Barre, RPM, Flight, and BodyPump.  Patty was not a “fitness” person until she started attending Wilson’s as a member in 2014, realizing she needed to focus on her health.  She started taking a yoga class one day a week and loved how it made her feel; how much more productive she was after just one class a week.  Later that year, she took Fusion and knew after just two classes that she wanted to teach it.  She also started running in 2014, with the goal of running a half marathon.  Patty completed her first half marathon in October of that year. In 2017, she started cycling outdoors thinking that she could possibly participate in a duathalon.  That plan had one thing missing though, so she is currently teaching herself to swim so that she can participate in a triathlon!

Patty loves seeing members living an active lifestyle.  “Each person that comes to my class is taking time out of their life to turn the focus on themselves and their health.  For many that is coming at a sacrifice of time with family or other important things happening in their life. I want to provide that individual with the absolute best workout experience so that they will continue to take that time for them!”
