SPECIALTY CLASSES & WHAT TO BRING

*Specialty Classes are $7.50 + tax for any Wilson’s member and $15.00 + tax for non-members. HH = Happy Hour Classes are $5.00 + tax for members and non-members.

Contact MEMBER SERVICES to find out how to add Specialty Classes (those marked with *) to your membership and enroll for free.

  1. Please bring a water bottle to all classes to stay hydrated.
  2. Yoga mats are required for yoga and barre classes.
  3. Aerobics specific shoes are recommended for cardio classes and S.P.D. cycling shoes are recommended for cycling classes.
  4. Schedule is subject to change due to low attendance, instructor injury or instructor availability.
  5. Inclement weather policy: Please call ahead for changes to due weather.

Classes have been set up to complement each other. Please feel free to attend more than one class to achieve overall fitness.

*SPECIALTY CLASS ENROLLMENT:  (Regular classes do not require enrollment)  Advanced booking is encouraged for Specialty Classes and is available one week prior to class.

  1. Enroll online or at your club.
  2. No refunds are given for cancellations less than two hours prior to class time.
  3. If you have not enrolled prior to arriving at the club, you may be placed on a waiting list until 5 minutes before class begins.
  4. Once you arrive at the club, please check in at the front desk and receive a wristband which will be collected by the instructor prior to the start of class.
  5. All participants must have signed in 5 minutes prior to start of class to ensure their spot. This is for your safety to get acclimated to the heat as well as to open space for those on the waiting list. If you have not checked in 5 minutes prior to class, your spot will be given to the next person on the waiting list and no refunds will be given.
  6. For those whose membership includes unlimited free specialty classes, a cancellation fee of $5 will be assessed to your account for any class cancelled less than 2 hours prior to class. A $5 cancellation fee will also be assessed if you are too late to attend or don’t show up for class.

blankLisa holds certifications in Les Mills BodyStep, BodyPump, BodyCombat, BodyFlow, BodyVive, BOSU and Practical Pilates. She has completed YogaFIT Levels 1, 2 and 3, and is also certified by the American Council on Exercise in personal training. She began her fitness journey after the birth of her second child, taking aerobics classes at a local college. For 20 years she could be found on the front row, changing her body, getting stronger, and loving the social aspect of working out; making lifelong friends in the process. She took the leap to become an instructor when she moved to Columbia with her family from Austin, Texas in 2006 starting with BodyStep. In 2007 she joined the team at Wilson’s and helped expand the group fitness program one format at a time, each an exciting new adventure. She currently teaches BodyPump, BodyCombat and BodyFlow and works as the Assistant Group Fitness Manager.

Lisa is a former vocalist and music therapist who brings her love of music and passion for fitness together to motivate her clients, inspiring them to reach their ultimate potential. “I love the electricity that happens when people aspire, together, to conquer their challenges. The moments when the whole room is working hard, when members reach heights they thought were unobtainable, those are the magic moments.” Lisa says the most rewarding thing about teaching is making a difference in people’s lives. “If people walk away from my class feeling empowered, feeling good about themselves, there is no better success.”

blankAkaysha is a certified Les Mills GRIT instructor and started teaching at Wilson’s in 2019.  A high school basketball player, she maintained her athleticism through college by working out and taking classes at a gym.  She loves group fitness because of the motivation it provides, versus working out on your own.  Plus, she feels it’s a great way to make new friends!  Her favorite part about teaching is watching people improve every week in class, and seeing them push to reach new goals.  She hopes to get people motivated to continue to come to the gym and to live healthy lifestyles!

This barre inspired workout is one of the fastest, most effective ways to burn calories and get toned! Yes, Hot Barre is centered around a ballet barre and inspired by the workout routine by ballet legend Lotte Berk, but the barre is simply there to provide stability, balance, and support as you move through exercises that target the core, glutes, arms, and legs. No dance experience necessary, you just need to know these three numbers: 95 degrees, 45 minutes, 800 calories! Not recommended during pregnancy. Please consult your physician.

blankMeghan is the Group Fitness Assistant Director.  She is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, both through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and is a Wilson’s Wellness Coach. She is a 200 RYT, through Yoga Alliance, and has 100 hour specialty certifications in Yoga for Athletes and Warrior Yoga.  She also holds certifications Les Mills BodyAttack, BodyFlow, BodyPump and RPM; Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight; DK Body Pilates; and Animal Flow Level 1. She currently teaches BodyPump, RPM, Hot Barre, BodyAttack, BodyFlow, Fusion, Chair Yoga, Balance Board, and Warrior Yoga and takes personal training clients.

When she was pregnant with her first child, Meghan was 120 pounds heavier.  “I learned how quickly lifestyle and diet can get out of control.”  Meghan came to work (with her baby) in the Wilson’s playcenter in 2006.  Being in a supportive, healthy environment led to weight loss, fitness, and education.  In 2009 she became a personal trainer and was excited to help others.  She maintained a healthy diet and weight through her other three pregnancies, and her passion for exercise grew to encompass group fitness as well.

“I love motivating people to feel empowered and successful; to do something they didn’t think they could do, or be someone they didn’t think they could be.”  She also finds it uplifting to see the camaraderie that develops within a class or training session, and the gym community.

blankBrenda has been a familiar face at Wilson’s since 2000, when she got her start as a fitness instructor teaching kickboxing, then spinning.  After a few moves and a break to focus on her school and classroom, Brenda came back as instructor in 2017, earning her certifications in Les Mills RPM and Stages Flight.  She currently teaches both.

Brenda wanted to become an instructor because teaching comes naturally for her.  She enjoys team workouts and making it fun!  She loves the relationships she has built with her members.  She loves group fitness, and her other passion is teaching first graders!  Brenda has been married to her husband, James, for 26 years.  They have a daughter attending Mizzou and a son at Rock Bridge high school.

blankPhyllis is an Aerobics and Fitness Association of American (AFAA) Certified Personal Trainer, and is also certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) in Senior Longevity. Since January 2012, Phyllis has worked as a personal trainer at FIT. She is a Mizzou alum and holds a B.S.Ed. in elementary education and an M.Ed. in health education. Before becoming a personal trainer, she taught 4th grade for 26 years. One of the many highlights of her teaching career was to help revise the 4th grade health curriculum and teach the importance of maintaining a healthy body through diet and exercise. As an avid exerciser, Phyllis enjoys biking and walking at the trail and participating in the various exercise classes Wilson’s has to offer.

Since 2013, Phyllis has taught seniors in the group studio, leading Forever Fit and sharing her expertise on health and well-being during the aging process. She’s found her work as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor very rewarding. The challenge of designing fitness plans and classes that will maximize benefits for her clients’ healthy lifestyle has been her focus. She’s a living example of her personal mantra, “Exercise is good for the soul.”

blankBecky is certified in Les Mills BodyCombat, BodyPump and BodyStep and is in-house trained in various Barre formats. She loves being active and considers it her favorite hobby. A Wilson’s member for over 10 years, she started teaching in March of 2014. An avid runner, she has completed over 20 half-marathons and 4 marathons to date and continues to train in distance running.  “The classes I currently teach complement running by promoting posture, strengthening legs and core, and help the body learn to engage muscles more effectively.”

Currently, Becky teaches Barre Fitness, FIT (Females In Training), Barrelates, and loves the overall group fitness experience.  She became an instructor to help others enjoy their workouts while getting stronger. “I love being at the gym. I see exercise as rewarding and fun, and I want others to feel the same.”  The relationships and friendships made at the gym have been a huge bonus to feeling strong.

blankBetty is certified through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in Group Fitness, Les Mills in RPM and BodyVive, and has trained for BOSU and TRX. A fixture at Wilson’s Fitness since 1996, her teaching career began in the early 80’s. She’s taught multiple formats, including step, ‘slide’ and group racquetball and currently teaches RPM and BOSU along with Hot Barre in the hot studio.

Though Betty was athletic as a child, her real start with fitness began when she was 29. After having her first child she began jogging to lose weight. Then she started running races. Then marathons, including the infamous Boston Marathon. She  also played competitive women’s racquetball, biked the MS 150 and took aerobics classes. Betty chose to become an instructor when coaxed by an instructor to channel her passion for working out. “I love sharing the knowledge I have acquired along the way and watching people see that fitness is fun; it gives you energy and makes you feel great!” She wants her members to get excited about living a healthy lifestyle and be good examples for their families and friends, too.

What Betty loves most is motivating people to believe they have an inner athlete, that they can become fitter, and it is never too late! Since she was almost 30 when she began, she inspires her participants simply by walking the walk. “If I can inspire just one person to get healthier each time I lead a class, then I am fulfilled. I have done the job that I love so much.”

blankKatie is certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, Sh’Bam and RPM, Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and YogaFit Level 1, and is also a Certified Personal Trainer through ISSA and SCW.   She currently teaches RPM and Sh’Bam.  She took personal training clients and coached Team Training for a couple of years when her kids were babies, but now she works full time and teaches group fitness in her free time.

Katie started teaching because she always took dance growing up, and almost all group fitness classes involve teaching choreography to music, so it felt right.  She also felt like group fitness inspired her to become fitter and healthier than she could have ever become on her own.  She continues to teach because the gym is like a second family.  Her fellow instructors and class members are her friends, and class is a space of acceptance and positivity – she goes to class to have fun!  “It’s one of the rare opportunities that, as an adult, you get to participate in a fun, voluntary group activity that doesn’t involve drinking!”

Her favorite part about teaching is making people feel successful and proud – that can happen at any level, and it is key to getting people to come back and make fitness a permanent lifestyle.  She also likes motivating people to work harder than they ever would outside the studio – and like it!

blankBarb has been participating in and instructing water aerobics for over 25 years,  since 1999 at Wilson’s. She’s certified with Aquatic Exercise Association and White Crow Yoga and currently teaches a variety of aqua classes. Through aqua exercise and regular attendance over the years, she’s built a tight-knit community whose connection extends beyond the pool and into friendship. From the gym, to one another’s homes, they gather regularly to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions.

Barb enjoys seeing the difference the water has made in people’s lives and the gains they’ve made in flexibility, balance, cardio strengthening and body conditioning. She keeps teaching year after year because aqua exercise increases overall health, for her and her members. ”After experiencing the benefits of water exercise, I wanted to share it with others. Water aerobics is for everyone!”

blankCandace, a Columbia native, has a strong dance background. She began her dance training at five years old when she was enrolled in ballet at her family’s church.  Around the age of eleven, she was enrolled in the Halcyone Ewalt Perlman School of Ballet, now the Perlman-Stoy School of Ballet (Mid-Missouri Dance Theatre), where she studied under the close tutelage of Halcyone Perlman and performed in yearly concerts from junior high through high school.  In addition to dance, Candace is very athletic and played volleyball from 7th-9th grade. In high school, she successfully auditioned and was accepted into the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.  Shortly after moving to New York City, she began professional dance training at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center where she studied ballet, West African, Modern, Horton, Dunham, dance choreography, and more. Today, Candace resides in Columbia, and is a licensed cosmetologist at Riversong Spa and Salon.  She is a guest instructor and choreographer at the Perlman-Stoy School of Ballet.  Candace is wife to husband, Eric, and mother to two precious children, Jamila and Xavier.

Working out and staying active helps Candace continue to do what she is very passionate about…dance.  Candace started teaching at Wilson’s in 2016 and earned her certification in Les Mills BodyAttack in 2017.  She currently teaches Hot Barre and BodyAttack. She is passionate about helping people achieve their goals and look their best. She would be elated to have you in any of her classes!

This practice uses the same sequences as Fusion 90 with the exception of 1 round (rather than 2) of the standing strength postures.
