Lisa Kent

blankLisa holds certifications in Les Mills BodyStep, BodyPump, BodyCombat, BodyFlow, BodyVive, BOSU and Practical Pilates. She has completed YogaFIT Levels 1, 2 and 3, and is also certified by the American Council on Exercise in personal training. She began her fitness journey after the birth of her second child, taking aerobics classes at a local college. For 20 years she could be found on the front row, changing her body, getting stronger, and loving the social aspect of working out; making lifelong friends in the process. She took the leap to become an instructor when she moved to Columbia with her family from Austin, Texas in 2006 starting with BodyStep. In 2007 she joined the team at Wilson’s and helped expand the group fitness program one format at a time, each an exciting new adventure. She currently teaches BodyPump, BodyCombat and BodyFlow and works as the Assistant Group Fitness Manager.

Lisa is a former vocalist and music therapist who brings her love of music and passion for fitness together to motivate her clients, inspiring them to reach their ultimate potential. “I love the electricity that happens when people aspire, together, to conquer their challenges. The moments when the whole room is working hard, when members reach heights they thought were unobtainable, those are the magic moments.” Lisa says the most rewarding thing about teaching is making a difference in people’s lives. “If people walk away from my class feeling empowered, feeling good about themselves, there is no better success.”

Instructor: Betty Bohon

Betty Bohon

Betty Bohon

blankBetty is certified through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in Group Fitness, Les Mills in RPM and BodyVive, and has trained for BOSU and TRX. A fixture at Wilson’s Fitness since 1996, her teaching career began in the early 80’s. She’s taught multiple formats, including step, ‘slide’ and group racquetball and currently teaches RPM and BOSU along with Hot Barre in the hot studio.

Though Betty was athletic as a child, her real start with fitness began when she was 29. After having her first child she began jogging to lose weight. Then she started running races. Then marathons, including the infamous Boston Marathon. She  also played competitive women’s racquetball, biked the MS 150 and took aerobics classes. Betty chose to become an instructor when coaxed by an instructor to channel her passion for working out. “I love sharing the knowledge I have acquired along the way and watching people see that fitness is fun; it gives you energy and makes you feel great!” She wants her members to get excited about living a healthy lifestyle and be good examples for their families and friends, too.

What Betty loves most is motivating people to believe they have an inner athlete, that they can become fitter, and it is never too late! Since she was almost 30 when she began, she inspires her participants simply by walking the walk. “If I can inspire just one person to get healthier each time I lead a class, then I am fulfilled. I have done the job that I love so much.”

Katie Tillman

blankKatie is certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, Sh’Bam and RPM, Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and YogaFit Level 1, and is also a Certified Personal Trainer through ISSA and SCW.   She currently teaches RPM and Sh’Bam.  She took personal training clients and coached Team Training for a couple of years when her kids were babies, but now she works full time and teaches group fitness in her free time.

Katie started teaching because she always took dance growing up, and almost all group fitness classes involve teaching choreography to music, so it felt right.  She also felt like group fitness inspired her to become fitter and healthier than she could have ever become on her own.  She continues to teach because the gym is like a second family.  Her fellow instructors and class members are her friends, and class is a space of acceptance and positivity – she goes to class to have fun!  “It’s one of the rare opportunities that, as an adult, you get to participate in a fun, voluntary group activity that doesn’t involve drinking!”

Her favorite part about teaching is making people feel successful and proud – that can happen at any level, and it is key to getting people to come back and make fitness a permanent lifestyle.  She also likes motivating people to work harder than they ever would outside the studio – and like it!

Hayes Murray

Hayes Murray

blankHayes, a Level 1 YogaFit instructor, joined the Wilson’s team in 2018, teaching Fusion classes.  He has been very physically active his whole life.  Wrestling and weightlifting in high school led to Hayes being able to push himself hard when he joined the Army.  Serving as a Scout in the Armed Calvary, he did everything from obstacle courses to rappelling out of helicopters to 12-mile runs to swimming in frozen lakes (with wet suits on, luckily!).  He is a qualified scuba diver, has run the Tough Mudder twice, and still likes to ski and lift weights.

When knee pain put a stop to running a few years ago, Hayes was not happy about that and searched for another activity.  A friend suggested yoga – it has since been every answer to a workout he could want.  “It can be all the challenge you want or none of it if you just want to stretch, depending on how you feel for the session.”  A realtor by day, he enjoys his time teaching yoga because he likes to help people find the same enjoyment he does in the practice.  He admires the other instructors and it was learning through them that inspired him to go further in yoga and push himself to give back.  He feels it is humbling and rewarding all at once to be among that group.

Hayes is learning from his members, just as they are learning from him, and when he sees them pushing, it always takes him higher, too.  Yoga is the best practice he has found.  “Like we say in class:  There are no belts or titles in yoga, no championship brackets and you don’t get points for getting to a pose first; but what you do get is the workout you want, as you want it to be, and a great sense of being.”  That’s why he loves it!

And I meet fabulous people along the way!” As a new mom, finding time to work out is a struggle, but she feels it’s more important than ever to stay active and healthy with a little one watching everything she does. Working out has always been a great stress-reliever and way to clear her mind; now, in seeking balance in her new role as a mother, she finds it’s also an absolute necessity for her sanity. “My favorite part about teaching is the opportunity to provide that stress relief for someone else. Chuck loves to push his clients, to make them work harder than they thought they could, and to see the results.  Plus, he likes being in control!  He wants his members to know that they are capable of way more than they think.  If they train hard and learn to control their doubt and anxiety, they can exceed their goals.

Amanda wanted to become an instructor because teaching and leading has always come naturally to her; she was a gymnastics and cheerleading coach, and a high school math teacher.  “Becoming an instructor has allowed me to align my passion for health and fitness with my teaching experience.”  She loves the community that comes with teaching group fitness and has met some of her best friends in classes.  She feels that there is something so special about being in a room filled with people who are all working toward goals to become the best versions of themselves.

Either of these instructors may be teaching this class:

blankVesta Hotchkiss is certified in Les Mills BodyPump, teaching at Wilson’s since May of 2014.  She participated in many sports growing up and has always loved being physically active.  After attending TigerX classes at Mizzou, she fell in love with group fitness.  Upon graduating, she joined Wilson’s and started attending many classes… but she was intimidated by BodyPump and did not try it right away.  Once she did, she was hooked, and it became her favorite class!  It still is, along with BodyCombat, BodyAttack, Yoga, and BodyFlow.

Vesta became a regular BodyPump participant and was always in the front row.  When her instructor, Lisa Kent, came up to her after class and said, “You know, if you know the choreography better than I do, then it is time to get certified!”  Vesta laughed her off at first, but the more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea!  She got certified right away.  She loves everything about group fitness; the music, the movements, the people.  She loves how it brings people together, creates relationships, and challenges people to push themselves.  She loves being their cheerleader and their coach.  “Fitness changes lives!”

Vesta teaches kindergarten at Mill Creek Elementary and has taught in Columbia for 9 years.  She has a wonderful husband, Phil, who loves coming to her Saturday classes and being in the front row!  They have a two year-old son, Auggie, who might be a BodyPump instructor some day!  She is a health food nut and enjoys talking about healthy eating.

blankJenna Rose is certified in Les Mills BodyPump, BodyStep, Sh’Bam, and BodyVive. She’s been a group fitness instructor since 2000 when she taught step at Wilson’s in Jefferson City. Jenna has taught continuously since then, at Wilson’s in Columbia from 2000-2005 and from 2012 to present. Jenna currently teaches BodyPump and BodyStep.

Jenna decided to go into teaching because she loved taking group fitness classes and felt passionately about the benefits of exercise to mind, body and quality of life. “I wanted to share it with others and inspire them to make it part of their daily lives.”

Once she discovered and became certified in Les Mills classes, she’s never taught anything else. “I loved the professional choreography and great music the programs provide every quarter, as well as safe and effective workouts that deliver results.”

blankTina got her start in fitness in the early 90’s as a group exercise participant and was invited to train as an instructor for a local health club in Amarillo, TX.  She started with aquatic exercise and delved into as many facets of that format as she could find, excelling as an instructor.  Through the years, she branched out to teaching various aerobics, strength and flexibility, bootcamp and HIIT style, yoga, and Pilates classes.  More recently, her interests lean toward the aerial arts and aqua.

Tina is certified in AEA, AFAA, ICSA Pilates, Moms in Motion, Hydrofit, and Arthritis Foundation.  She has been an instructor for 27 years and started at Wilson’s in 1992.  She currently teaches water aerobics, Pilates, yoga, aerial yoga, and aerial hammock skills.  Over the years, she has found that her overall health (physical and mental) is better and she is capable of so much more than others her age because she has stayed fit.  She loves teaching because of the interaction with her participants and seeing them evolve.  As they become stronger and more proficient, she likes to find new or different ways to challenge them and help them achieve their goals.  “Seeing participants’ smiles, hearing their success stories, and watching their confidence grow proves to me that I am making a difference in their lives.”

In her spare time, she makes cakes – big/small, fancy, fun, fondant, crazy cakes!  It started when her son asked her to make a soccer ball cake for his 11th birthday.  She thought, “Hey, I’ve watched a lot of Cake Boss – I’ll give it a go!”  Her background in graphic design and art transferred over nicely and she’s been creating fun, edible works of art ever since.

blankMegan started teaching Aerial Yoga at Wilson’s in 2018, after earning her YogaFit Level 1 certification.  She’s been practicing yoga for about 6 years and also enjoys running and weightlifting.  She loves fitness and wanted to make it a larger part of her life by being an instructor to others.  She still teaches Aerial Yoga, along with Fusion and Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga.

Megan taught dance and show choir choreography while in high school and college.  She really liked that and missed the connection she got with her students, and so she knew she would enjoy teaching Aerial Yoga.  “Yoga has a special place in my heart and aerial has really helped my practice grow.”  What she likes most about teaching are her students; each has their own special skills and she loves seeing them grow in their journey.  She encourages others to never be afraid to try something new.  It may be scary at first, but it can change your life!

Kimberly Uffmann

blankKim holds a certification with Les Mills in BodyJam, which she received in March of 2016. She began teaching for Wilson’s shortly after. “Dance has always been my form of fitness. I danced in high school, and after that, I took classes at MCB here in Columbia. When my class was cancelled, I found BodyJam.” It didn’t take long for Kim to realize she ‘needed’ to become an instructor, she just had to wait for the rest of her life to fall into place before she could make it happen. Her instructor, Kelly Lancey, was a big influence and encouraged Kim to go to training. It was in Kelly’s classes that Kim found a dance outlet where she could really let go and add her own flair. Now, as an instructor herself, Kim loves having the opportunity to encourage others just as she was encouraged. “I want them to come and sweat and get a great workout, but also to have fun, let loose, and put their own feelings into the movements.”

While Kim loves the music and the dancing, her favorite part of teaching is sharing all of it with an amazing group of people. “My Jammers are my family! We support one another both inside and outside of the gym. I can be having the worst day and when I get in that room with them I can feed off of their positive energy! I love hearing how they feel the same and that they ‘need’ their jam time, too!”

Kim is also a kindergarten teacher in Columbia and recently graduated from MU, obtaining her certificate for administration. She lives with her husband, Bryce and fur baby, Maize.
