Lisa Kent

blankLisa holds certifications in Les Mills BodyStep, BodyPump, BodyCombat, BodyFlow, BodyVive, BOSU and Practical Pilates. She has completed YogaFIT Levels 1, 2 and 3, and is also certified by the American Council on Exercise in personal training. She began her fitness journey after the birth of her second child, taking aerobics classes at a local college. For 20 years she could be found on the front row, changing her body, getting stronger, and loving the social aspect of working out; making lifelong friends in the process. She took the leap to become an instructor when she moved to Columbia with her family from Austin, Texas in 2006 starting with BodyStep. In 2007 she joined the team at Wilson’s and helped expand the group fitness program one format at a time, each an exciting new adventure. She currently teaches BodyPump, BodyCombat and BodyFlow and works as the Assistant Group Fitness Manager.

Lisa is a former vocalist and music therapist who brings her love of music and passion for fitness together to motivate her clients, inspiring them to reach their ultimate potential. “I love the electricity that happens when people aspire, together, to conquer their challenges. The moments when the whole room is working hard, when members reach heights they thought were unobtainable, those are the magic moments.” Lisa says the most rewarding thing about teaching is making a difference in people’s lives. “If people walk away from my class feeling empowered, feeling good about themselves, there is no better success.”

Darla Tharp

Darla Tharp

blankDarla Tharp is certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, BodyFlow, and BodyPump, and has been teaching at Wilson’s since January 2017. She developed a love of fitness, sports, and the outdoors at an early age.  In middle and high school, Darla participated in softball and basketball, ran as a sprinter on the track team, and took dance classes for fun.  In college, she continued to play softball and had a regular fitness routine that included running and resistance training.  After college her focus shifted to half marathons and triathlons. “I really enjoy mixing up my routine and trying different types of physical challenges which brought me to Wilson’s group fitness.  Attending classes in addition to running, biking, and swimming is a great way to increase strength, stamina, agility, and flexibility.”

Because four of Darla’s passions are physical fitness, music, teaching, and socializing, becoming a group fitness instructor was a natural fit. She loves helping others to reach their fitness goals and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle. “I feel blessed to be able to teach classes to the beat of funky music while being immersed in the energy of the wonderful people around me.  It is a great way to challenge my own fitness capacity as well as those who attend class.”

When Darla isn’t in the gym, she’s either doing scientific research at the University of Missouri or is at one of her son’s many sporting events.

Patty Loehr

Patty Loehr

blankPatty has been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015. She completed her 200 RYT and is certified in Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and Les Mills RPM, BodyPump, and BodyStep.  She currently teaches Fusion, Gentle Flow, Hot Barre, RPM, Flight, BodyPump, and BodyStep.  Patty is a certified Personal Trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), a Wilson’s Wellness Coach, and is a NASM Fitness Nutrition Specialist.  Patty was not a “fitness” person until she started attending Wilson’s as a member in 2014, realizing she needed to focus on her health.  She started taking a yoga class one day a week and loved how it made her feel; how much more productive she was after just one class a week.  Later that year, she took Fusion and knew after just two classes that she wanted to teach it.  She also started running in 2014, with the goal of running a half marathon.  Patty completed her first half marathon in October of that year. In 2017, she started cycling outdoors thinking that she could possibly participate in a duathalon.  That plan had one thing missing though, so she is currently teaching herself to swim so that she can participate in a triathlon!

Patty loves seeing members living an active lifestyle.  “Each person that comes to my class is taking time out of their life to turn the focus on themselves and their health.  For many that is coming at a sacrifice of time with family or other important things happening in their life. I want to provide that individual with the absolute best workout experience so that they will continue to take that time for them!”

Lauren Dennings

blankLauren is certified in Les Mills BodyPump and began teaching it at Wilson’s in the spring of 2020.  Lauren grew up playing volleyball and running with the cross-country and long-distance track teams at her school.  As she got a full-time job and moved into adult life, she would occasionally run or do some other form of cardio, but never found something to do consistently… until she discovered the BodyPump classes at her local gym in southern CA and got hooked!  She and her husband quickly became “regulars”.  What she enjoys most about BodyPump is the ability to go as heavy or light as you need to with the weights, and the life-long journey it plays towards physical health.  “I am often in classes with people ranging from their teens to their 80’s.  It’s encouraging to see that this is something that can be incorporated into my lifestyle long-term.”

Lauren wanted to become an instructor because she enjoys encouraging people towards better physical, emotional, and spiritual health, and thought it would be a great opportunity to learn how to become a better coach.  What she likes best about teaching is meeting new people, and learning the new BodyPump releases!  She loves providing a fun, safe environment that encourages people to challenge themselves.

Susan Zeng

blankYinghui (“Susan”) has been teaching Yoga and Aerial at Wilson’s since 2018.  She has her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate, and has trained in Yoga Barre, Kids, Seniors, Props, and Warriors, and has been practicing yoga for 20 years.  Working in the technology field, she would stare at a computer for hours and thought yoga was only for very fit people.  Then she tried a free class and immediately fell in love with the mindset that everybody is a yoga body.  She was inspired by the authentic, non-judgemental teaching and the compassion-centered philosophy and so decided to begin her yoga journey!

Growing up with a family that practiced ancient Chinese Qigong meditations, Susan now weaves thought-provoking meditations and mindful movement throughout her classes.  She applies ancient wisdom to our contemporary western world in a useful and understandable way, leading others and herself to create dynamic harmony between yin and yang, and to walk the path toward a happier, healthier, and more conscious life.  She is passionate about teaching and sharing her yoga journey, as well as the benefits of yoga and aerial.

Susan feels that the most important rules of her life were learned from yoga:  #1 is the Mountain Pose; always stand tall with your shoulders back!  #2 is Child’s Pose; take care of ourselves  and connect body and brain, as our body is the child of our soul.  #3 is mindful breathing; regardless of what’s happening, the unconscious breath is the repetitive prayer that goes on continuously in all living creatures.

Adam loves seeing people succeed and find enjoyment in exercise.  In his classes, he always tries to incorporate some level of education, whether its what something is, or why the class is doing it.  “Knowledge is one of the most empowering gifts you can give someone, so I always incorporate education as a means of empowering my class.”  The other part that is so rewarding about teaching is the social circle it develops.  “Just through shared experiences and proximity, you get to know the people you see every week for class without even meaning to. When someone is gone, you notice it!  So for anyone looking to find a program to stick it, I recommend coming to a weekly class!  You will begin to build those connections, and you’ll quickly find those friends will hold you accountable.”  Also, Adam enjoys a good laugh so expect at least a handful of jokes every time you take one of his classes!

High-intensity interval training (HIIT), one of the hottest fitness trends on the planet, is the fastest way to get fit and in shape. Short, sharp bursts of effort allow you to reach maximum training zones and that’s the secret to athletic performance.  ATHLETIC: multi-dimensional sports conditioning, using bodyweight exercises and sometimes a step.  CARDIO: improves cardiovascular fitness, increases speed, and maximizes calorie burn.  STRENGTH: designed to improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, and build lean muscle, using barbell weight plate, and bodyweight exercises.

blankZach holds certifications in Les Mills GRIT and KettleWorX. Teaching at Wilson’s since 2013, he currently coaches all 3 formats of GRIT; Cardio, Plyo and Strength. As a college athlete, he was active and competitive, and continues to compete in adventure races such as Tough Mudder, Springfield Urban Challenge and the Missouri American Water MR340, a canoe and kayak race across the state of Missouri.

Zach began teaching as a personal challenge, but he’s grown to really enjoy it. He finds it fun and rewarding to help his participants push themselves and meet their fitness goals. “What I like best about teaching are the people; seeing them improve their fitness, and knowing that our Wilson’s team is helping them do that.”

Shelby O’Keefe

blankShelby joined the Wilson’s Group Fitness team in 2019.  She is a former Turbo Kick instructor, then also became certified in PiYo LIVE and YogaFit Level 1.  She fell in love with group fitness in college and has always enjoyed attending classes.  She decided to turn that love into teaching in 2016 and has not looked back.  “I am excited to bring my love of music and dance to Hot Barre and my passion for being in the present moment to Fusion.”

Shelby wanted to become an instructor because she loves sharing her passion for health and fitness with others. “No matter where a person is on their health journey, there is always a way for them to have a great time while being active and moving their body. I want people to enjoy fitness and find what works best for them.” What she enjoys most about teaching is meeting new people and encouraging them to do their best, but still have fun! Besides teaching classes, Shelby loves the outdoors and can often be found walking her dog or hiking trails both in and out-of-state.
