Darla Tharp

Darla Tharp

blankDarla Tharp is certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, BodyFlow, and BodyPump, and has been teaching at Wilson’s since January 2017. She developed a love of fitness, sports, and the outdoors at an early age.  In middle and high school, Darla participated in softball and basketball, ran as a sprinter on the track team, and took dance classes for fun.  In college, she continued to play softball and had a regular fitness routine that included running and resistance training.  After college her focus shifted to half marathons and triathlons. “I really enjoy mixing up my routine and trying different types of physical challenges which brought me to Wilson’s group fitness.  Attending classes in addition to running, biking, and swimming is a great way to increase strength, stamina, agility, and flexibility.”

Because four of Darla’s passions are physical fitness, music, teaching, and socializing, becoming a group fitness instructor was a natural fit. She loves helping others to reach their fitness goals and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle. “I feel blessed to be able to teach classes to the beat of funky music while being immersed in the energy of the wonderful people around me.  It is a great way to challenge my own fitness capacity as well as those who attend class.”

When Darla isn’t in the gym, she’s either doing scientific research at the University of Missouri or is at one of her son’s many sporting events.

Patty Loehr

Patty Loehr

blankPatty has been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015. She completed her 200 RYT and is certified in Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and Les Mills RPM, BodyPump, and BodyStep.  She currently teaches Fusion, Gentle Flow, Hot Barre, RPM, Flight, BodyPump, and BodyStep.  Patty is a certified Personal Trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), a Wilson’s Wellness Coach, and is a NASM Fitness Nutrition Specialist.  Patty was not a “fitness” person until she started attending Wilson’s as a member in 2014, realizing she needed to focus on her health.  She started taking a yoga class one day a week and loved how it made her feel; how much more productive she was after just one class a week.  Later that year, she took Fusion and knew after just two classes that she wanted to teach it.  She also started running in 2014, with the goal of running a half marathon.  Patty completed her first half marathon in October of that year. In 2017, she started cycling outdoors thinking that she could possibly participate in a duathalon.  That plan had one thing missing though, so she is currently teaching herself to swim so that she can participate in a triathlon!

Patty loves seeing members living an active lifestyle.  “Each person that comes to my class is taking time out of their life to turn the focus on themselves and their health.  For many that is coming at a sacrifice of time with family or other important things happening in their life. I want to provide that individual with the absolute best workout experience so that they will continue to take that time for them!”

blankRobin is certified in KettleWorX, indoor cycling and TRX. Before becoming an instructor, Robin took spinning classes at Wilson’s in 2001 and fell in love with its intensity and cross training benefits. In high school she enjoyed competitive sports, especially basketball and volleyball. After marrying a runner in 1994, she slowly, but surely became serious about running. Starting in 2000 she has competed races of all distances including three marathons and several duathlons.

Robin has always been an athlete, but after she started her exercise routine and healthy eating as an adult, she lost 40 lbs. She wanted to help others and inspire them in ways that were personal to her. “I understand what it’s like to be self-conscious about body image and I want to help people in that struggle.”  When she became an instructor in 2007, she started with indoor cycling. And when she needed a new challenge, she found it with KettleWorX in 2014. Robin currently teaches KettleWorX and Hot Barre at Wilson’s.

“Teaching motivates me to live fitness as a lifestyle. It also challenges me both physically and mentally and I enjoy that added dimension of the workout. Plus, I really like being in charge!“ Above all, she loves her members and the friendships that have come from her classes. And she loves for new people to try her classes. Teaching gives her a chance to be a cheerleader for others in their fitness journey. “It is so exciting to see people transform their lives!” I love for new people to try my classes. Chuck loves to push his clients, to make them work harder than they thought they could, and to see the results.  Plus, he likes being in control!  He wants his members to know that they are capable of way more than they think.  If they train hard and learn to control their doubt and anxiety, they can exceed their goals.

blankJen has been a group fitness instructor since 2012, but joined the Wilson’s team in 2018.  She has her Group Fitness certification through AFAA and is certified in Les Mills BodyCombat, which she currently teaches.  Jen started teaching classes in college; she always preferred group fitness to other workouts – its just more fun to her!  She has taught strength, cardio, cycling, yoga, and kickboxing over the years.  She taught Turbo Kick before she discovered BodyCombat, and has taught classes in St. Louis, Columbia, and at a fitness camp in Florida.

Jen wanted to become an instructor because she loves the atmosphere of group fitness and working out with others.  She feels like she learned an incredible amount about herself through teaching group fitness.  “I love how I am always being challenged as an instructor, whether it is connecting with others, the physical workout, or the art of coaching.”  The reciprocated enthusiasm between everyone in a class is beyond anything she has experienced.  The energy is empowering and she is very drawn to it.  Every class is more than just a workout;  it is an event, an experience.  The instructors who create that unique experience inspire and challenge her to bring that to her own members, and that is the beauty of group fitness – everyone growing stronger together, every class.

When she’s not teaching BodyCombat, you’ll find her taking BodyPump, RPM, Fusion, and other Wilson’s classes; baking; and enjoying a hot, sunny day!

blankVesta Hotchkiss is certified in Les Mills BodyPump, teaching at Wilson’s since May of 2014.  She participated in many sports growing up and has always loved being physically active.  After attending TigerX classes at Mizzou, she fell in love with group fitness.  Upon graduating, she joined Wilson’s and started attending many classes… but she was intimidated by BodyPump and did not try it right away.  Once she did, she was hooked, and it became her favorite class!  It still is, along with BodyCombat, BodyAttack, Yoga, and BodyFlow.

Vesta became a regular BodyPump participant and was always in the front row.  When her instructor, Lisa Kent, came up to her after class and said, “You know, if you know the choreography better than I do, then it is time to get certified!”  Vesta laughed her off at first, but the more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea!  She got certified right away.  She loves everything about group fitness; the music, the movements, the people.  She loves how it brings people together, creates relationships, and challenges people to push themselves.  She loves being their cheerleader and their coach.  “Fitness changes lives!”

Vesta teaches kindergarten at Mill Creek Elementary and has taught in Columbia for 9 years.  She has a wonderful husband, Phil, who loves coming to her Saturday classes and being in the front row!  They have a two year-old son, Auggie, who might be a BodyPump instructor some day!  She is a health food nut and enjoys talking about healthy eating.

blankPatty Loehr has been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015.

Kimberly Uffmann

blankKim holds a certification with Les Mills in BodyJam, which she received in March of 2016. She began teaching for Wilson’s shortly after. “Dance has always been my form of fitness. I danced in high school, and after that, I took classes at MCB here in Columbia. When my class was cancelled, I found BodyJam.” It didn’t take long for Kim to realize she ‘needed’ to become an instructor, she just had to wait for the rest of her life to fall into place before she could make it happen. Her instructor, Kelly Lancey, was a big influence and encouraged Kim to go to training. It was in Kelly’s classes that Kim found a dance outlet where she could really let go and add her own flair. Now, as an instructor herself, Kim loves having the opportunity to encourage others just as she was encouraged. “I want them to come and sweat and get a great workout, but also to have fun, let loose, and put their own feelings into the movements.”

While Kim loves the music and the dancing, her favorite part of teaching is sharing all of it with an amazing group of people. “My Jammers are my family! We support one another both inside and outside of the gym. I can be having the worst day and when I get in that room with them I can feed off of their positive energy! I love hearing how they feel the same and that they ‘need’ their jam time, too!”

Kim is also a kindergarten teacher in Columbia and recently graduated from MU, obtaining her certificate for administration. She lives with her husband, Bryce and fur baby, Maize.

blankRachel holds a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification and is registered with Yoga Alliance.  She is new to teaching at Wilson’s, but not new to yoga or group fitness!  Rachel has been practicing yoga for ten years and started teaching it almost two years ago.  She has taught both in the US and internationally.  Previously, Rachel was a competitive distance runner and an avid rock climber.  She came to the practice of yoga to heal an injury and increase her flexibility, but soon realized the benefits of yoga were more than just physical… which inspired her to become a teacher.  Rachel teaches yoga for all ages and levels, but mostly loves to teach a class filled with a core challenge and a good workout!
