Instructor: Susan Zeng

Susan Zeng

Susan Zeng

blankYinghui (“Susan”) has been teaching Yoga and Aerial at Wilson’s since 2018.  She is certified in YogaFit Level 3 and has been practicing yoga for 20 years.  Working in the technology field, she would stare at a computer for hours and thought yoga was only for very fit people.  Then she tried a free class and immediately fell in love with the mindset that everybody is a yoga body.  She was inspired by the authentic, non-judgemental teaching and the compassion-centered philosophy and so decided to begin her yoga journey!

Growing up with a family that practiced ancient Chinese Qigong meditations, Susan now weaves thought-provoking meditations and mindful movement throughout her classes.  She applies ancient wisdom to our contemporary western world in a useful and understandable way, leading others and herself to create dynamic harmony between yin and yang, and to walk the path toward a happier, healthier, and more conscious life.  She is passionate about teaching and sharing her yoga journey, as well as the benefits of yoga and aerial.

Susan feels that the most important rules of her life were learned from yoga:  #1 is the Mountain Pose; always stand tall with your shoulders back!  #2 is Child’s Pose; take care of ourselves  and connect body and brain, as our body is the child of our soul.  #3 is mindful breathing; regardless of what’s happening, the unconscious breath is the repetitive prayer that goes on continuously in all living creatures.

Cindy B / Jen A

Either of these instructors may be teaching this class:

blankCindy Brengarth has taught many fitness classes at various facilities around Columbia, MO since the early 1980’s and started teaching at Wilson’s in 1988 – the same year that she became an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor.  She also holds a YogaFit Level 1 certification and a BS in Nursing from UMC.  She currently teaches Kettleworx, TBW, and Yoga.

As a nurse Cindy believes you invest in your health or pay into your illness and so she loves to inspire people to take care of their health.  She likes getting to know the members and helping them love themselves to health and fitness.  “Together we will feel the breath of life in our lungs and hearts as we work our way to fitness.  It is never too late to begin a program to improve your health.  I am here to help you achieve your goals!”

blankJen Anderson has been a group fitness instructor since 2012, but joined the Wilson’s team in 2018.  She has her Group Fitness certification through AFAA and is certified in Les Mills BodyCombat, which she currently teaches.  Jen started teaching classes in college; she always preferred group fitness to other workouts – its just more fun to her!  She has taught strength, cardio, cycling, yoga, and kickboxing over the years.  She taught Turbo Kick before she discovered BodyCombat, and has taught classes in St. Louis, Columbia, and at a fitness camp in Florida.

Jen wanted to become an instructor because she loves the atmosphere of group fitness and working out with others.  She feels like she learned an incredible amount about herself through teaching group fitness.  “I love how I am always being challenged as an instructor, whether it is connecting with others, the physical workout, or the art of coaching.”  The reciprocated enthusiasm between everyone in a class is beyond anything she has experienced.  The energy is empowering and she is very drawn to it.  Every class is more than just a workout;  it is an event, an experience.  The instructors who create that unique experience inspire and challenge her to bring that to her own members, and that is the beauty of group fitness – everyone growing stronger together, every class.

When she’s not teaching BodyCombat, you’ll find her taking BodyPump, RPM, Fusion, and other Wilson’s classes; baking; and enjoying a hot, sunny day!

blankShannon Bahadori holds certifications in Les Mills Body Step and Body Jam, and Group Exercise Instructor through NETA. She is also PALS certified and house-trained in Wilson’s exclusive program, Hot Barre.

A former high school and college athlete, Shannon has over 18 years of strength training and fitness experiences. Passion for fitness and a desire to inspire others lead her to pursue teaching. “I enjoyed going to group classes after college but never thought I would become an instructor. Now I wish I hadn’t waited so long.” In 2014, she started teaching at Wilson’s after her first training, BodyStep. She loves helping others reach their fitness goals in a fun and positive atmosphere.

Shannon and her husband have two children; the family of four loves exercising together as well as being outside any chance they get. In her ‘spare time,’ she works as a nurse at MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital. “It just goes to show I love taking care of others. Being at the gym, teaching my classes goes along with that.” She currently teaches Body Step, Body Jam, and Hot Barre.

Travis Ritter

blankFor Travis, fitness is a way of life. A tennis player from a young age through high school, he now actively participates in triathlons. As of October 2018, he has completed 30+ triathlons of all different distances, including two Ironman distance races.
Travis uses indoor cycling and yoga to train for races year round. In RPM and Flight, the group atmosphere, the upbeat music, and the variations in the releases/profiles make the workouts challenging yet fun. Yoga has improved his overall lifestyle by reducing stress, reducing his chance for overuse injuries, and improving his mental focus.
When Travis decided to become certified to teach Les Mills RPM, Stages Flight and Yoga, he combined his cycling knowledge with a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training to become an authentic and well-rounded instructor with much to offer his members. Now he enjoys helping others reach their goals, facilitating fitness to enrich their lives the way it’s enhanced his own. He’s been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015.  “Don’t be intimidated to try a new class at Wilson’s. The instructors want to help you through, so if a class interests you, try it!”

Meghan M / Lacey R

Either of these instructors may be teaching this class:

blankMeghan McCullah is the Group Fitness Assistant Director.  She is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, both through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). She also holds certifications in Oh Baby! Fitness (a pre- and post-natal exercise program); Les Mills BodyAttack, BodyFlow, BodyPump and RPM; Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight; DK Body Pilates; YogaFit for Athletes; and Animal Flow Level 1. She currently teaches BodyPump, RPM, Hot Barre, BodyAttack, BodyFlow, Fusion, and Balance Board and takes personal training clients.

When she was pregnant with her first child, Meghan was 120 pounds heavier.  “I learned how quickly lifestyle and diet can get out of control.”  Meghan came to work (with her baby) in the Wilson’s playcenter in 2006.  Being in a supportive, healthy environment led to weight loss, fitness, and education.  In 2009 she became a personal trainer and was excited to help others.  She maintained a healthy diet and weight through her other three pregnancies, and her passion for exercise grew to encompass group fitness as well.

“I love motivating people to feel empowered and successful; to do something they didn’t think they could do, or be someone they didn’t think they could be.”  She also finds it uplifting to see the camaraderie that develops within a class, training session, and the gym community.

blankLacey Sweeten-Randall started at Wilson’s in 2017 and is currently teaching Aerial Yoga, Aerial 101, Aerial Silks Level 1, Board Balance, and BodyFlow.  Her certifications include 250 hours Aerial Yoga Training through Aerial Yoga Academy and Les Mills BodyFlow.  Lacey used to hate working out or pretty much any kind of fitness or sport.  After college, she tried out a few gyms with little success… until 2015 when she discovered Wilson’s and her first fitness love – aerial silks.  The challenge to both mind and body combined with an amazing support system surrounding the classes finally helped her find her love of fitness.

Lacey became an instructor because she wanted to support others in their fitness goals like her instructors had done for her.  She loves the community in the group fitness classes.  She looks forward to coming to her classes to get a whole workout, share her knowledge, and also for the social experience.  Lacey encourages everyone to try a class that is outside of their comfort zones.  “Many times I’ve had people tell me that they had wanted to try an aerial class or board balance but were intimidated.  Please don’t be!  These classes are open to EVERYBODY for a reason.  Come try them out!”

Emily Beydler

Emily Beydler

blankThough she’s been a group fitness junkie for over 15 years, Emily became an instructor in 2018.  Certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, she currently teaches BodyAttack, Total Body Workout (TBW), and Hot Barre.  Emily has been active her whole life, but started taking group fitness classes after college and became hooked!  She had always wanted to become an instructor, but didn’t know if and when that would happen… then when one of her favorite classes was taken off the schedule due to lack of instructors, the time seemed right.

Not only has becoming an instructor changed her own fitness level, but she loves being able to help fellow members challenge theirs as well.  Having members tell her they fit into their “goal” pants or that they are feeling good in the later stages of their pregnancy is so rewarding and pushes her to continue growing in her own journey, so she can help people continue to grow in theirs.  She also really loves the friendships and camaraderie that are forged in group fitness classes.  She wouldn’t trade this “job” for anything in the world.  It’s two of her favorite things rolled into one – working out and being with friends.

Emily wants members to know that if she can do it, they can do it.  When she found out she was pregnant with quadruplets in 2015, she gave away all of her “regular size” clothes and was certain she would never look the same again.  While her body (and her life) has changed since then, she finally began exercising again when the babies were 18 months old, and slowly but surely, she started to feel like herself again.  “It’s not about what shape you’re in, what size you are, or what you think a “gym” person looks like.  This is your health journey and what matters is that you show up.  Just come.  Group fitness is a truly a no-judgement zone and you will not find a more encouraging group of people to spend an hour with.  Let your instructors and your classmates be your cheerleaders and come enjoy your workout!”

Vesta Hotchkiss

Vesta Hotchkiss

blankVesta is certified in Les Mills BodyPump, teaching at Wilson’s since May of 2014.  She participated in many sports growing up and has always loved being physically active.  After attending TigerX classes at Mizzou, she fell in love with group fitness.  Upon graduating, she joined Wilson’s and started attending many classes… but she was intimidated by BodyPump and did not try it right away.  Once she did, she was hooked, and it became her favorite class!  It still is, along with BodyCombat, BodyAttack, Yoga, and BodyFlow.

Vesta became a regular BodyPump participant and was always in the front row.  When her instructor, Lisa Kent, came up to her after class and said, “You know, if you know the choreography better than I do, then it is time to get certified!”  Vesta laughed her off at first, but the more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea!  She got certified right away.  She loves everything about group fitness; the music, the movements, the people.  She loves how it brings people together, creates relationships, and challenges people to push themselves.  She loves being their cheerleader and their coach.  “Fitness changes lives!”

Vesta teaches kindergarten at Mill Creek Elementary and has taught in Columbia for 9 years.  She has a wonderful husband, Phil, who loves coming to her Saturday classes and being in the front row!  They have a two year-old son, Auggie, who might be a BodyPump instructor some day!  She is a health food nut and enjoys talking about healthy eating.

Anah Riley

Anah Riley

blankAnah became certified in Les Mills BodyCombat in 2018 and has been teaching it at Wilson’s since then.  She chose to become an instructor because group fitness changed her life.  Growing up struggling with her weight and health, she discovered group fitness classes (along with personal training and lifting) her senior year of high school.  She made the conscious decision to take her life back.  She loved the community of a class, the personal, cared-for feeling each instructor gave you.  “They made me feel like I could conquer anything, like I was valued, important, and had a purpose.  That would get me through class, and even more – life.”  What started out as something she felt like she had to do turned into something she looked forward to doing all day!

Anah wants members to feel like that when they come to her class; its a place where they can give everything they have to walk out feeling stronger emotionally, mentally, and physically.  “It’s about so much more than what happens in a one-hour class – it’s how you take your life back and care for yourself in mind, body, and spirit!”  What she loves best about teaching is getting to know members and seeing them get stronger, fitter, and overall happier.  She loves learning about their stories.  She wants to teach that PROGRESS is what matters, not perfection.  Everybody’s roads look different, but we’re all on them together!  Anah wants members to know that group fitness is for EVERYBODY.  There is a class (or two, or three!) out there for everyone.  Instructors care for you in and out of the gym.  “To be able to do life with you is a privilege that motivates both us and you!”

blankLisa Morovitz-Geger has YogaFit Level 1 training and has been teaching Fusion, yoga, and Hot Barre since the fall of 2019.  She is also certified in Progressive Ballet Technique and manages the recreational ballet program at Columbia Performing Arts Center.  Dance has always been at the center of her fitness, specifically ballet or any ballet-style modern dance.  The pure technique required to execute those steps and choreography helped her develop the strength to feel like she’s flying!  Lisa felt that not being able to take an adult dance class really inhibited her strength and stamina while teaching dance.  She tried running, weightlifting, and working out on her own, but she wasn’t finding results or motivation.  When she started taking group fitness classes, she really got engaged.  “Even if I didn’t feel confident or didn’t like the exercises, I continued to barrel through so I wouldn’t disappoint the teacher.  In doing so, it forced me to do a lot of things I would never do on my own and I grew stronger and began to develop a more developed body.”

What Lisa likes best about teaching are the people!  She loves her fellow instructors, but also really values the participants; the effort they put forth, their passion, the desire to better themselves, and allowing vulnerability in front of others.  “My heart swells with gratitude to be in a sacred place of sharing.”  She knows that the members have taken time out of their crazy schedules to be in the studio with her, and finds that humbling.  She finds the term, “teaching” a bit misleading.  She brings knowledge and experience to share, but also values the knowledge and experiences that the members bring to the studio.  She feels that the studio is a beautiful place to be together and learn from each other… even while she guides them through some pretty rigorous exercises and they sometimes want to kill her!

“I love to work hard.  I love to laugh at myself.  I love getting to know the clients in front of me.  Life is too hard to not enjoy yourself even in the middle of an intense workout.  Positivity and enthusiasm breed more positivity and enthusiasm.  We are blessed with incredible bodies, spirits, and minds.  We are so much better when we fly together.”

Eric Blumberg

Eric Blumberg

blankEric started teaching at Wilson’s in 2013, when he became certified in Les Mills GRIT.  An ACE-Certified Personal Trainer, he also taught Les Mills CxWorX and BodyPump for a time, but then decided to focus solely on his first love… GRIT, which he dubs “the toughest workout in the gym”.  Eric likes to be challenged to push his personal limits and so he brings that same feeling to his classes.  He challenges his GRIT family to push themselves past what they think they can do to reach their next level of fitness.

Eric doesn’t call what he does ‘teaching’ class… instead, he’s ‘coaching’ class.  He’s encouraging and motivating his class to reach new heights.  When class is done, he enjoys getting to know his participants better so it feels like a family.  People in his class ask where someone is when a regular doesn’t make it.  Eric also runs a GRIT Facebook page called Wilson’s GRIT Athletes, where he posts articles about the benefits of HIIT (high intensity interval training) and why it’s great for you.  In the summer, he holds GRIT at the Beach Club; a special class outside where participants earn a free day for themselves and a friend at the Beach Club.
