blankStefanie started at Wilson’s in 2017 after becoming certified in YogaFit Level 1.  She currently teaches Fusion, Yoga, and Kickboxing.  She has played sports all her life; she was most competitive in track and field and cross country and ran in college at UMKC.  Her emphasis was sprints and hurdles.  She currently still trains on the track and hopes to run Elite soon!

Stefanie became very interested in yoga and the way it made her body feel.  It seemed like a good fit with her active, healthy lifestyle, and she likes to share that with her classes.  She enjoys the challenge yoga brings her, especially when it’s a new class or release.  She likes to push herself out of her comfort zone.  Outside of Wilson’s, she has a wonderful and busy husband, and two little girls!

Jody Street

Jody Street

blankJody is certified in Zumba and Les Mills BodyAttack and joined the Wilson’s team in 2019.  She is currently teaching both Zumba and BodyAttack.  Jody began her fitness journey four years ago when her oldest daughter convinced her to sign up for a 5K race.  She was nervous, but set a goal to finish the race (and not finish last).  She trained for a few months, finished the race, and to her surprise, got second place in her age division.  She was hooked and has been running 5K’s (and 10K’s and half marathons!) ever since.

Jody discovered group fitness classes in 2018.  While she was a little intimidated and nervous to go try something new, her daughter again encouraged her and she fell in love with the group fitness atmosphere.  Her favorites were BodyAttack and BodyJam.  She never dreamed she’d be an instructor, but when an instructor/mentor asked her if she’d like to teach, she realized she did.  She wanted to help others fall in love with group fitness just as she did; to provide that fun, welcoming, positive environment; and to help students view exercise as fun.  She wants to let participants know that it doesn’t matter your age, size, or fitness level. Group fitness is for everyone.  “Don’t be intimidated like I was all those years.  Walk through that door.  You won’t be sorry.”

After working as an RN for over 20 years, Jody is now retired.  When she isn’t teaching, she enjoys spending time with her three adult children and her four beautiful grandchildren… and vacationing to Florida where she and her husband keep their 5th wheel camper for a little winter home!

A Wilson’s member for over 10 years, she started teaching in March of 2014. An avid runner, she has completed over 20 half-marathons and 4 marathons to date and continues to train in distance running.  “The classes I currently teach complement running by promoting posture, strengthening legs and core, and help the body learn to engage muscles more effectively.”

Currently, Becky teaches Barre Fitness, FIT (Females In Training), Barrelates, and loves the overall group fitness experience.  She became an instructor to help others enjoy their workouts while getting stronger. “I love being at the gym. I see exercise as rewarding and fun, and I want others to feel the same.”  The relationships and friendships made at the gym have been a huge bonus to feeling strong.

Emily Smith

Emily Smith

blankEmily became an instructor at Wilson’s in 2016, just after turning 40.  She is certified in Les Mills CxWorX and BodyCombat and currently teaches both, in addition to Total Body Workout (TBW).  She played sports into college and exercise was always important to her after that.  After getting married and having kids, it became more difficult to find time and motivation to work out.  Two years after her second son was born, she finally recommitted to exercise and loves the Les Mills classes and instructors (and the playcenters!) at Wilson’s.  In fact, several years ago, her husband was offered a job in a different city and the first thing she did was research if any gyms there offered Les mills classes!  Luckily, they stayed in Columbia and five years later, she got certified in her first program, CxWorX.

Emily loves the energy of group fitness.  She became an instructor because she felt that when one is going to classes all the time, it makes sense to keep the progression going.  This was also the time that Wilson’s was getting CxWorX for the first time so she was excited to get in on the ground floor of such a great program.  She enjoys developing friendships with other instructors and getting to know them through working together.  Emily loves motivating people to work harder and make changes to their fitness levels.  Also, she secretly loves having the mic and being able to talk for an hour straight – like one giant monologue/stand-up routine!

The instructors inspired her and she wanted to be that person who helped others find passion in health and fitness in a way that she was able to. Group fitness kick started her active lifestyle and since she has completed a triathlon and many races, and become an IFPA Figure Competitor, KettleWorX Master Trainer, and YogaFit Master Trainer. “I love the training process. I love learning new things and always growing and improving.”

In 2014 Catina opened the Hot Studios at Wilson’s and designed the new formats, Hot Barre and Fusion exclusively for Wilson’s. She continues to choreograph new material for these programs on a regular basis. She says it is through the connections she makes with members that she is able to make life-changing experiences for them as well as find growth in herself. Catina lives each day with gratitude, in such a way that brings santosha, Sanskrit for contentment, to her life.

blankEvann Twitchell joined the Wilson’s team in 2018.  Holding her YogaFit Level 1 and Anatomy and Alignment certifications, she currently teaches Fusion and Hot Barre.  She has been practicing yoga for about six years and has loved dance since childhood.  Evann recently spent two years volunteering with an organization called The Young Americans, in which she also has The Young Americans International Music Outreach Tour Certification.  They take music and dance workshops to kids around the world.  In this, she was able to learn more about fitness and dance while teaching.

After moving back to Columbia to study at Mizzou, Evann wanted to become an instructor at Wilson’s so she could continue to improve her skills as a teacher, encourage people on their wellness journeys, and keep herself accountable to her personal fitness goals in a positive, active community.  She loves getting to meet people (who she wouldn’t have otherwise met!) and to empower them to continue pursuing long-term, healthy lifestyles in uplifting and fun ways.

Evann believes it is so important to take time to take care of yourself.  She is honored to be a part of that process with everyone that comes to a class.  Also, she loves getting to know people, so please feel free to say “Hi”!

Michael Griffith

Michael Griffith

blankMichael “Griff” Griffith has been teaching Les Mills BodyCombat at Wilson’s since getting certified in 2017.  He became a “gym person” when his first child was born over 16 years ago and fell in love with some of the Les Mills classes.  He was inspired by several instructors over the years and while he’s somewhat of a teacher at heart, he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to devote the time and energy it takes to be a group fitness instructor.  Boy, was he wrong!  He loves being part of something bigger than himself.  The team camaraderie is amazing and he loves to see class participants push themselves to new heights.

Michael suffered a major knee injury over 20 years ago and though his knee was surgically repaired through orthopedics, his “fixed” knee has always been a little different.  There was a time a few years ago when he thought he’d have to give up his two classes he loves most, BodyCombat and BodyPump.  He had hit the age of 50 and thought he had missed his opportunity to become a great instructor.  After discovering a supplement that ultimately improved his knee pain (and overall joint health), he decided to jump on a training opportunity for BodyCombat.  He was told that training would be intense but it would change him in ways both in AND out of the gym.  They were right; it made him grow personally and helped him professionally in his other job.  He is very appreciative for the inspiration he received and wishes now to inspire others.  Michael firmly believes that we need to keep moving as we age and he’s grateful to be a part of the Wilson’s team!

Laurie has taught at Wilson’s since 2014 when another instructor encouraged her to go for her aspiration of becoming an instructor.  She finds teaching to be great motivation for trying to be a better version of herself. “I am constantly learning and evolving as an instructor. And I meet fabulous people along the way!” As a new mom, finding time to work out is a struggle, but she feels it’s more important than ever to stay active and healthy with a little one watching everything she does. Working out has always been a great stress-reliever and way to clear her mind; now, in seeking balance in her new role as a mother, she finds it’s also an absolute necessity for her sanity. “My favorite part about teaching is the opportunity to provide that stress relief for someone else. I feel honored to be a fitness guide and do my best to take a little off your plate and give you a great workout in which you don’t have to worry or think, just have fun and MOVE!”

When she’s not teaching, Laurie is a Property Manager at Callahan & Galloway, momma to Evie Gene, and wife to Kyle.

Tina England

blankTina got her start in fitness in the early 90’s as a group exercise participant and was invited to train as an instructor for a local health club in Amarillo, TX.  She started with aquatic exercise and delved into as many facets of that format as she could find, excelling as an instructor.  Through the years, she branched out to teaching various aerobics, strength and flexibility, bootcamp and HIIT style, yoga, and pilates classes.  More recently, her interests lean toward the aerial arts.

Tina is certified in AEA, AFAA, ICSA Pilates, Moms in Motion, Hydrofit, and Arthritis Foundation.  She has been an instructor for 27 years and started at Wilson’s in 1992.  She currently teaches water aerobics, pilates, yoga, aerial yoga, and aerial hammock skills.  Over the years, she has found that her overall health (physical and mental) is better and she is capable of so much more than others her age because she has stayed fit.  She loves teaching because of the interaction with her participants and seeing them evolve.  As they become stronger and more proficient, she likes to find new or different ways to challenge them and help them achieve their goals.  “Seeing participants’ smiles, hearing their success stories, and watching their confidence grow proves to me that I am making a difference in their lives.”

In her spare time, she makes cakes – big/small, fancy, fun, fondant, crazy cakes!  It started when her son asked her to make a soccer ball cake for his 11th birthday.  She thought, “Hey, I’ve watched a lot of Cake Boss – I’ll give it a go!”  Her background in graphic design and art transferred over nicely and she’s been creating fun, edible works of art ever since.

Maggie Lohmeyer

blankMaggie is a Missouri native and a Mizzou grad. After practicing with some amazing teachers in San Francisco for two years, she felt like teaching was a deeper calling. She received her 200 RYT in Ashtanga from Abhjina school of yoga in Varkala, India in November 2018. While living in San Francisco and at her training in India, she realized how inaccessible yoga is to those who can’t afford a class or feel that their body isn’t ‘built’ for yoga. She hopes to be able to offer her classes as a way for all bodies to experience the amazing mind and body benefits of a regular practice. Outside of yoga, Maggie is also a runner. Her latest races were the Run Under the Stars 50k and the Big Sur Marathon.  You might see her running around Columbia as she trains for her next race!  Maggie is excited to make Wilson’s Fitness a home this fall and share her love of fitness with others!

Kelsey Gibson

blankKelsey is certified in YogaFit Level 1 and started teaching Fusion at Wilson’s in 2018.  She was always an active person (lot of gymnastics and cheerleading throughout childhood), then began working with a personal trainer after high school.  Her fitness addiction quickly grew!

Kelsey chose to become an instructor because fitness has made such a huge impact on her life and she wanted to help others have the same experience.  She thinks everyone has that “special instructor” that has influenced their life and she wants to be that person for someone.  She loves to see others thrive and reach their goals.

What Kelsey loves most about teaching is forming new relationships with her class members.  She finds it extremely rewarding that she gets to help them take 60 minutes out of their busy schedules to give back to themselves.  She is blessed to have a job where she gets to walk alongside others in their wellness journeys.  Kelsey’s other job is a massage therapist, so she thinks the two go together like Oreos and milk!

Brenda wanted to become an instructor because teaching comes naturally for her.  She enjoys team workouts and making it fun!  She loves the relationships she has built with her members.  She loves group fitness, and her other passion is teaching first graders!  Brenda has been married to her husband, James, for 26 years.  They have a daughter attending Mizzou and a son at Rock Bridge high school.

Jennifer Mantle

Jennifer Mantle

blankJennifer holds a Basic Life Saving certification and is trained as a Water Aerobics Trainer by Tina Price. She currently teaches Aqua Blast and Aqua Kickboxing. As an avid swimmer and water aerobics participant, her instructors were so encouraging to her she wanted to pass that along to others. When she became an instructor, she sought to challenge not only herself, but also her class members to better fitness through the joy of water aerobics. She finds that by teaching, she learns so much more herself. She began at Wilson’s in 2015 and loves teaching here. “Being part of this organization is a huge bonus!”

Jennifer also has a background in circuit training, and is a former competitive weight-lifter and she wants people to know it doesn’t matter if you are a beginner, expert or anything in between, water aerobics is an awesome workout that will get you fit in no time. “I highly recommend checking out a class. You will be surprised just how many muscles you will use—some you may have forgotten about.”

Cortney Hutson

Cortney Hutson

blankCortney joined the Wilson’s team in 2018.  Holding her YogaFit Level 1, she currently teaches Aerial Hammock Conditioning.  She danced through high school and entertained bursts of fitness throughout life, but had no lasting interest in fitness until trying aerial silks.  The artistry combined with athleticism appealed to her.  Since becoming an aerialist, she has begun cross training with yoga, weightlifting, and running.

Cortney wanted to become an instructor to show people that fitness is for everyone.  “People are often intimidated by the gym to the point that they feel they need to become fit before they can come to the gym to get fit.”  The supportive environment of group classes takes away some of the pressure of coming to the gym.  Cortney wouldn’t be nearly as fit as she is without the encouragement of some amazing instructors – and she wants to pass that same feeling long to others.  What she loves most about teaching is the moment when something “clicks” for a participant and they nail a pose or trick for the very first time.  She wants her members to know that fitness isn’t about how much you weigh or how much you can lift; its a commitment to making the healthiest choices for your physical and mental health.

Amanda Ruyle

blankAmanda has been teaching Les Mills BodyStep at Wilson’s since becoming certified in 2016.  She also teaches Balance Board classes both outside during the summer, and Dry Land indoors.  She use to hate working out and going to the gym until she was inspired by some wonderful Wilson’s instructors (Lisa K and Sara M).  Soon, as a participant, her love for fitness classes grew; she wanted to become a teacher so she could motivate others to love it (and working out in general) like those instructors did for her!

Amanda believes working out isn’t something we “have to do”, but something we can “love to do”!  Group fitness helped her feel better about herself… mind, body, and soul.  She is thankful for all of the Les Mills programs that make coming to the gym FUN!

Active throughout school, Hannah danced, marched in the band, competed in gymnastics, track and field, and cross country. In college she discovered roller derby, pole fitness, and aerial arts. When she became an instructor at Wilson’s in June 2015, she wanted to share her love for aerial arts and yoga, and remains passionate about continuing her education. Personally, she is expanding her horizons by training in various circus arts including contortion, corde lisse, and flying trapeze. Hannah also has a combined Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, and health science as well as two different minors in nuclear engineering. In addition to performing aerial arts and competing in pole championships, she works full time for the University of Missouri.

Hannah loves seeing breakthroughs in her students when, after working through a move in aerial, their faces light up. She also loves bringing the joy of yoga to her participants with no competition or expectation. “Yoga isn’t about if we’re flexible or strong enough; it’s about coming back to your center, finding your ground.” Hannah wants people to know instructors are here to help them grow in their journey of self-discovery. “Don’t be afraid to push yourself and step out of your comfort zone. Don’t let fear keep you from exploring what you’re capable of.”
