Either of these instructors may be teaching this class:

blankCassie Kauffman has her YogaFit Level 1 and Les Mills BodyAttack certifications and currently teaches BodyAttack, Hot Barre and KettleworX at Wilson’s. Growing up, she was active in dance and cheerleading. She got involved with group fitness and running when her best friend passed away from ovarian cancer at the age of 28. She has completed several races, half marathons, and trail races. In 2018, another instructor encouraged her to go for her aspiration of becoming an instructor so she did!

“Teaching is a great way to be a better version of myself.” Cassie has two children, ages 4 and 2, and its very important for her to stay active and healthy, especially with them watching. Working out has always been a great stress reliever and a way to clear her mind… which is necessary for her sanity! She loves teaching because she wants to provide that stress relief for others. She attended Wilson’s group fitness classes for years and has always found it motivating to work out in a group setting and push yourself with your friends. “Wilson’s has amazing members that help make the classes fun.”

blankKarri Ball is certified in Les Mills BodyPump, BodyStep, and BodyVive, teaching group fitness since 2006, and at Wilson’s since 2012. As a regular participant, she was encouraged by one of her instructors to pursue teaching and has been leading her own classes since, currently on the schedule with BodyPump and Hot Barre.

Karri is excited to help others have fun while exercising. “What I love the most is watching the transformation that happens in people when they commit to a new workout routine.” By trade she is a CPA. Teaching group fitness is what she does for fun!

She has completed YogaFIT Levels 1, 2 and 3, and is also certified by the American Council on Exercise in personal training. She began her fitness journey after the birth of her second child, taking aerobics classes at a local college. For 20 years she could be found on the front row, changing her body, getting stronger, and loving the social aspect of working out; making lifelong friends in the process. She took the leap to become an instructor when she moved to Columbia with her family from Austin, Texas in 2006 starting with BodyStep. In 2007 she joined the team at Wilson’s and helped expand the group fitness program one format at a time, each an exciting new adventure. She currently teaches BodyPump, BodyCombat and BodyFlow and works as the Assistant Group Fitness Manager.

Lisa is a former vocalist and music therapist who brings her love of music and passion for fitness together to motivate her clients, inspiring them to reach their ultimate potential. “I love the electricity that happens when people aspire, together, to conquer their challenges. The moments when the whole room is working hard, when members reach heights they thought were unobtainable, those are the magic moments.” Lisa says the most rewarding thing about teaching is making a difference in people’s lives. “If people walk away from my class feeling empowered, feeling good about themselves, there is no better success.”

Keira Hamann

Keira Hamann

blankKeira has been a Wilson’s instructor since 2016 and is certified in Les Mills BodyPump and BodyFlow.  She currently teaches Total Body Workout (TBW) and BodyFlow, and occasionally BodyPump.  Keira grew up active in sports, but upon going to college she didn’t know how to work out on her own. She started taking group fitness classes and, thanks to some fantastic instructors, she didn’t just get a workout, she learned a lot about fitness. She is grateful to have continued to have had so many opportunities to learn from knowledgeable people and grow in her own fitness knowledge, including personal training, active pregnancy and marathon training.  She became an instructor 8 years ago when the small community she moved to didn’t have body pump… so she got certified to teach it herself!  It was a small gym and she was encouraged to explore teaching a lot of different formats, which was both a challenging and fantastic learning experience.
Keira loves teaching group fitness classes because there is such great energy and community.  It really fuels the workout and helps her work harder while enjoying it more. She doesn’t like to just tell people what to do, she wants to teach them about what they are doing and why.  It not only enhances performance, but more importantly, it is so empowering!  She loves watching people try a new class or exercise and see the doubt and uncertainty on their faces transform into amazement and confidence as they progress.

Emily Smith

Emily Smith

blankEmily became an instructor at Wilson’s in 2016, just after turning 40.  She is certified in Les Mills CxWorX and BodyCombat and currently teaches both, in addition to Total Body Workout (TBW).  She played sports into college and exercise was always important to her after that.  After getting married and having kids, it became more difficult to find time and motivation to work out.  Two years after her second son was born, she finally recommitted to exercise and loves the Les Mills classes and instructors (and the playcenters!) at Wilson’s.  In fact, several years ago, her husband was offered a job in a different city and the first thing she did was research if any gyms there offered Les mills classes!  Luckily, they stayed in Columbia and five years later, she got certified in her first program, CxWorX.

Emily loves the energy of group fitness.  She became an instructor because she felt that when one is going to classes all the time, it makes sense to keep the progression going.  This was also the time that Wilson’s was getting CxWorX for the first time so she was excited to get in on the ground floor of such a great program.  She enjoys developing friendships with other instructors and getting to know them through working together.  Emily loves motivating people to work harder and make changes to their fitness levels.  Also, she secretly loves having the mic and being able to talk for an hour straight – like one giant monologue/stand-up routine!

Instructor: Susan Zeng

Mon

Susan Zeng

Susan Zeng

blankYinghui (“Susan”) has been teaching Yoga and Aerial at Wilson’s since 2018.  She is certified in YogaFit Level 3 and has been practicing yoga for 20 years.  Working in the technology field, she would stare at a computer for hours and thought yoga was only for very fit people.  Then she tried a free class and immediately fell in love with the mindset that everybody is a yoga body.  She was inspired by the authentic, non-judgemental teaching and the compassion-centered philosophy and so decided to begin her yoga journey!

Growing up with a family that practiced ancient Chinese Qigong meditations, Susan now weaves thought-provoking meditations and mindful movement throughout her classes.  She applies ancient wisdom to our contemporary western world in a useful and understandable way, leading others and herself to create dynamic harmony between yin and yang, and to walk the path toward a happier, healthier, and more conscious life.  She is passionate about teaching and sharing her yoga journey, as well as the benefits of yoga and aerial.

Susan feels that the most important rules of her life were learned from yoga:  #1 is the Mountain Pose; always stand tall with your shoulders back!  #2 is Child’s Pose; take care of ourselves  and connect body and brain, as our body is the child of our soul.  #3 is mindful breathing; regardless of what’s happening, the unconscious breath is the repetitive prayer that goes on continuously in all living creatures.

She completed her 200 RYT and is certified in Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and Les Mills RPM, BodyPump, and BodyStep.  She currently teaches Fusion, Gentle Flow, Hot Barre, RPM, Flight, BodyPump, and BodyStep.  Patty is a certified Personal Trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), a Wilson’s Wellness Coach, and is a NASM Fitness Nutrition Specialist.  Patty was not a “fitness” person until she started attending Wilson’s as a member in 2014, realizing she needed to focus on her health.  She started taking a yoga class one day a week and loved how it made her feel; how much more productive she was after just one class a week.  Later that year, she took Fusion and knew after just two classes that she wanted to teach it.  She also started running in 2014, with the goal of running a half marathon.  Patty completed her first half marathon in October of that year. In 2017, she started cycling outdoors thinking that she could possibly participate in a duathalon.  That plan had one thing missing though, so she is currently teaching herself to swim so that she can participate in a triathlon!

Patty loves seeing members living an active lifestyle.  “Each person that comes to my class is taking time out of their life to turn the focus on themselves and their health.  For many that is coming at a sacrifice of time with family or other important things happening in their life. I want to provide that individual with the absolute best workout experience so that they will continue to take that time for them!”

Kimberly Uffmann

blankKim holds a certification with Les Mills in BodyJam, which she received in March of 2016. She began teaching for Wilson’s shortly after. “Dance has always been my form of fitness. I danced in high school, and after that, I took classes at MCB here in Columbia. When my class was cancelled, I found BodyJam.” It didn’t take long for Kim to realize she ‘needed’ to become an instructor, she just had to wait for the rest of her life to fall into place before she could make it happen. Her instructor, Kelly Lancey, was a big influence and encouraged Kim to go to training. It was in Kelly’s classes that Kim found a dance outlet where she could really let go and add her own flair. Now, as an instructor herself, Kim loves having the opportunity to encourage others just as she was encouraged. “I want them to come and sweat and get a great workout, but also to have fun, let loose, and put their own feelings into the movements.”

While Kim loves the music and the dancing, her favorite part of teaching is sharing all of it with an amazing group of people. “My Jammers are my family! We support one another both inside and outside of the gym. I can be having the worst day and when I get in that room with them I can feed off of their positive energy! I love hearing how they feel the same and that they ‘need’ their jam time, too!”

Kim is also a kindergarten teacher in Columbia and recently graduated from MU, obtaining her certificate for administration. She lives with her husband, Bryce and fur baby, Maize.

blankMegan started teaching Aerial Yoga at Wilson’s in 2018, after earning her YogaFit Level 1 certification.  She’s been practicing yoga for about 6 years and also enjoys running and weightlifting.  She loves fitness and wanted to make it a larger part of her life by being an instructor to others.  She still teaches Aerial Yoga, along with Fusion and Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga.

Megan taught dance and show choir choreography while in high school and college.  She really liked that and missed the connection she got with her students, and so she knew she would enjoy teaching Aerial Yoga.  “Yoga has a special place in my heart and aerial has really helped my practice grow.”  What she likes most about teaching are her students; each has their own special skills and she loves seeing them grow in their journey.  She encourages others to never be afraid to try something new.  It may be scary at first, but it can change your life!

Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga*

Date: January 13

Time: 7:40 pm-8:40 pm

Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga uses postures, breathing, and meditation to help ease pregnancy, delivery, and the after-effects of birth.  The class creates strength, focus, flexibility, and awareness through a gentle practice designed especially for the pregnant woman’s needs.  The class also helps postpartum women regain vitality and energy that may have been lost during pregnancy with specific focus on rebuilding strength in the abdomen, back, and pelvic muscles, releasing tension in the shoulders and neck, and opening the chest.  This class may use props, such as pillows and blankets, so please bring any items that will facilitate the most comfort.
