Darla T / Emily B

Darla T / Emily B

Either of these instructors may be teaching the class:

Darla Tharp is certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, BodyFlow, and BodyPump, and has been teaching at Wilson’s since January 2017. She developed a love of fitness, sports, and the outdoors at an early age.  In middle and high school, Darla participated in softball and basketball, ran as a sprinter on the track team, and took dance classes for fun.  In college, she continued to play softball and had a regular fitness routine that included running and resistance training.  After college her focus shifted to half marathons and triathlons. “I really enjoy mixing up my routine and trying different types of physical challenges which brought me to Wilson’s group fitness.  Attending classes in addition to running, biking, and swimming is a great way to increase strength, stamina, agility, and flexibility.”

Because four of Darla’s passions are physical fitness, music, teaching, and socializing, becoming a group fitness instructor was a natural fit. She loves helping others to reach their fitness goals and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle. “I feel blessed to be able to teach classes to the beat of funky music while being immersed in the energy of the wonderful people around me.  It is a great way to challenge my own fitness capacity as well as those who attend class.”

When Darla isn’t in the gym, she’s either doing scientific research at the University of Missouri or is at one of her son’s many sporting events.

Though she’s been a group fitness junkie for over 15 years, Emily Beydler became an instructor in 2018.  Certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, she currently teaches BodyAttack, Total Body Workout (TBW), and Hot Barre.  Emily has been active her whole life, but started taking group fitness classes after college and became hooked!  She had always wanted to become an instructor, but didn’t know if and when that would happen… then when one of her favorite classes was taken off the schedule due to lack of instructors, the time seemed right.

Not only has becoming an instructor changed her own fitness level, but she loves being able to help fellow members challenge theirs as well.  Having members tell her they fit into their “goal” pants or that they are feeling good in the later stages of their pregnancy is so rewarding and pushes her to continue growing in her own journey, so she can help people continue to grow in theirs.  She also really loves the friendships and camaraderie that are forged in group fitness classes.  She wouldn’t trade this “job” for anything in the world.  It’s two of her favorite things rolled into one – working out and being with friends.

Emily wants members to know that if she can do it, they can do it.  When she found out she was pregnant with quadruplets in 2015, she gave away all of her “regular size” clothes and was certain she would never look the same again.  While her body (and her life) has changed since then, she finally began exercising again when the babies were 18 months old, and slowly but surely, she started to feel like herself again.  “It’s not about what shape you’re in, what size you are, or what you think a “gym” person looks like.  This is your health journey and what matters is that you show up.  Just come.  Group fitness is a truly a no-judgement zone and you will not find a more encouraging group of people to spend an hour with.  Let your instructors and your classmates be your cheerleaders and come enjoy your workout!”

Travis R / Katie T

Either of these instructors may be teaching the class.

For Travis Ritter, fitness is a way of life. A tennis player from a young age through high school, he now actively participates in triathlons. As of October 2018, he has completed 30+ triathlons of all different distances, including two Ironman distance races.
Travis uses indoor cycling and yoga to train for races year round. In RPM and Flight, the group atmosphere, the upbeat music, and the variations in the releases/profiles make the workouts challenging yet fun. Yoga has improved his overall lifestyle by reducing stress, reducing his chance for overuse injuries, and improving his mental focus.
When Travis decided to become certified to teach Les Mills RPM, Stages Flight and Yoga, he combined his cycling knowledge with a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training to become an authentic and well-rounded instructor with much to offer his members. Now he enjoys helping others reach their goals, facilitating fitness to enrich their lives the way it’s enhanced his own. He’s been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015.  “Don’t be intimidated to try a new class at Wilson’s. The instructors want to help you through, so if a class interests you, try it!”

Katie Tillman is certified in Les Mills BodyAttack, Sh’Bam and RPM, Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and YogaFit Level 1, and is also a Certified Personal Trainer through ISSA and SCW.   She currently teaches Hot and Cool Fusion, RPM, Flight, and Sh’Bam.  She took personal training clients and coached Team Training for a couple of years when her kids were babies, but now she works full time and teaches group fitness in her free time.

Katie started teaching because she always took dance growing up, and almost all group fitness classes involve teaching choreography to music, so it felt right.  She also felt like group fitness inspired her to become fitter and healthier than she could have ever become on her own.  She continues to teach because the gym is like a second family.  Her fellow instructors and class members are her friends, and class is a space of acceptance and positivity – she goes to class to have fun!  “It’s one of the rare opportunities that, as an adult, you get to participate in a fun, voluntary group activity that doesn’t involve drinking!”

Her favorite part about teaching is making people feel successful and proud – that can happen at any level, and it is key to getting people to come back and make fitness a permanent lifestyle.  She also likes motivating people to work harder than they ever would outside the studio – and like it!

In addition to yoga and aerial, Wendy has enjoyed swing dancing and belly dancing for over 10 years, and she’s always up for trying new dance styles.  When she’s not dancing, teaching, or at her day job, you’ll likely find her cooking or reading.

Susan Zeng

Yinghui (“Susan”) has been teaching Yoga and Aerial at Wilson’s since 2018.  She is certified in YogaFit Level 1 and has been practicing yoga for 20 years.  Working in the technology field, she would stare at a computer for hours and thought yoga was only for very fit people.  Then she tried a free class and immediately fell in love with the mindset that everybody is a yoga body.  She was inspired by the authentic, non-judgemental teaching and the compassion-centered philosophy and so decided to begin her yoga journey!

Growing up with a family that practiced ancient Chinese Qigong meditations, Susan now weaves thought-provoking meditations and mindful movement throughout her classes.  She applies ancient wisdom to our contemporary western world in a useful and understandable way, leading others and herself to create dynamic harmony between yin and yang, and to walk the path toward a happier, healthier, and more conscious life.  She is passionate about teaching and sharing her yoga journey, as well as the benefits of yoga and aerial.

Susan feels that the most important rules of her life were learned from yoga:  #1 is the Mountain Pose; always stand tall with your shoulders back!  #2 is Child’s Pose; take care of ourselves  and connect body and brain, as our body is the child of our soul.  #3 is mindful breathing; regardless of what’s happening, the unconscious breath is the repetitive prayer that goes on continuously in all living creatures.

Either of these instructors may be teaching this class.

Cindy Brengarth has taught many fitness classes at various facilities around Columbia, MO since the early 1980’s and started teaching at Wilson’s in 1988 – the same year that she became an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor.  She also holds a YogaFit Level 1 certification and a BS in Nursing from UMC.  She currently teaches Kettleworx, TBW, and Yoga.

As a nurse Cindy believes you invest in your health or pay into your illness and so she loves to inspire people to take care of their health.  She likes getting to know the members and helping them love themselves to health and fitness.  “Together we will feel the breath of life in our lungs and hearts as we work our way to fitness.  It is never too late to begin a program to improve your health.  I am here to help you achieve your goals!”

Alissa “Ali” Wood has been a fitness instructor since 2012 and joined the Wilson’s team in 2017.  She is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and is certified in YogaFit Level 1, Les Mills BodyFlow, and Parisi.  Ali currently teaches TBW, yoga, BodyFlow, and Kickboxing.  She became an instructor because of the people; she wants to put something positive back into the world and spread knowledge.  She needs to give in order to feel a sense of purpose and she loves helping other people feel good.  Ali loves the after-glow of a good workout – when it’s finished and everyone is spent and they get the collective “ahhhh”.

A former middle school teacher and librarian, Ali loves to read and write, and never tires for learning.  She appreciates the challenge of goal-setting and thrives on creating anything from recipes to home decor… but wouldn’t call herself artsy – crafty, maybe.  For her, the creative process is the enjoyment, just like fitness!

When she was pregnant with her first child, Meghan was 120 pounds heavier.  “I learned how quickly lifestyle and diet can get out of control.”  Meghan came to work (with her baby) in the Wilson’s playcenter in 2006.  Being in a supportive, healthy environment led to weight loss, fitness, and education.  In 2009 she became a personal trainer and was excited to help others.  She maintained a healthy diet and weight through her other three pregnancies, and her passion for exercise grew to encompass group fitness as well.

“I love motivating people to feel empowered and successful; to do something they didn’t think they could do, or be someone they didn’t think they could be.”  She also finds it uplifting to see the camaraderie that develops within a class, training session, and the gym community.

Chuck started teaching spinning at Wilson’s in 1997, after becoming certified in Johnny G. Spinning.  Fitness has played a major role in Chuck’s life; he has been a triathlete, road runner, cyclist, weightlifter, baseball player, and wrestler.  Chuck first started working at Wilson’s at the front desk and would take spinning classes on his days off, but as an employee, he would have to give up his bike to a member if the class filled.  Tired of getting booted, he decided to become the instructor!

Chuck loves to push his clients, to make them work harder than they thought they could, and to see the results.  Plus, he likes being in control!  He wants his members to know that they are capable of way more than they think.  If they train hard and learn to control their doubt and anxiety, they can exceed their goals.

Tina Price-England

Tina got her start in fitness in the early 90’s as a group exercise participant and was invited to train as an instructor for a local health club in Amarillo, TX.  She started with aquatic exercise and delved into as many facets of that format as she could find, excelling as an instructor.  Through the years, she branched out to teaching various aerobics, strength and flexibility, bootcamp and HIIT style, yoga, and pilates classes.  More recently, her interests lean toward the aerial arts.

Tina is certified in AEA, AFAA, ICSA Pilates, Moms in Motion, Hydrofit, and Arthritis Foundation.  She has been an instructor for 27 years and started at Wilson’s in 1992.  She currently teaches water aerobics, pilates, yoga, aerial yoga, and aerial hammock skills.  Over the years, she has found that her overall health (physical and mental) is better and she is capable of so much more than others her age because she has stayed fit.  She loves teaching because of the interaction with her participants and seeing them evolve.  As they become stronger and more proficient, she likes to find new or different ways to challenge them and help them achieve their goals.  “Seeing participants’ smiles, hearing their success stories, and watching their confidence grow proves to me that I am making a difference in their lives.”

In her spare time, she makes cakes – big/small, fancy, fun, fondant, crazy cakes!  It started when her son asked her to make a soccer ball cake for his 11th birthday.  She thought, “Hey, I’ve watched a lot of Cake Boss – I’ll give it a go!”  Her background in graphic design and art transferred over nicely and she’s been creating fun, edible works of art ever since.

In 2017, she started cycling outdoors thinking that she could possibly participate in a duathalon.  That plan had one thing missing though, so she is currently teaching herself to swim so that she can participate in a triathlon!

Patty loves seeing members living an active lifestyle.  “Each person that comes to my class is taking time out of their life to turn the focus on themselves and their health.  For many that is coming at a sacrifice of time with family or other important things happening in their life. Mary has always had a passion for fitness, wellness, and athleticism that was driven from playing sports at a young age.  These passions ultimately drove her to the study of physical therapy through college, and she has been a practicing clinician since 2007.  She earned her YogaFit Level 1 certification in 2017 and currently teaches Fusion at Wilson’s.

Mary started practicing yoga in 2013, during a season of some hard changes and health issues.  The environment of hot yoga challenged her to learn how to control her mind, let go of fear and worry, and sincerely be in the present moment.  Practicing yoga was something that brought a sense of stability that she had difficulty finding elsewhere.  As she continued practicing, she noticed the principles that she was learning on her yoga mat began to transfer into her every day life.  In 2017, she was ready to challenge herself to teach others what her yoga practice had given her by becoming an instructor at Wilson’s.

Teaching is great for Mary because she loves empowering people to live the best versions of themselves.  She’s passionate about understanding anatomy, biomechanics, and alignment, and teaching these principles in her classes.  She enjoys leading a class environment that promotes power, curiosity, safety, and self-acceptance.  “Come with an open mind!”

Vesta is certified in Les Mills BodyPump, teaching at Wilson’s since May of 2014.  She participated in many sports growing up and has always loved being physically active.  After attending TigerX classes at Mizzou, she fell in love with group fitness.  Upon graduating, she joined Wilson’s and started attending many classes… but she was intimidated by BodyPump and did not try it right away.  Once she did, she was hooked, and it became her favorite class!  It still is, along with BodyCombat, BodyAttack, Yoga, and BodyFlow.

Vesta became a regular BodyPump participant and was always in the front row.  When her instructor, Lisa Kent, came up to her after class and said, “You know, if you know the choreography better than I do, then it is time to get certified!”  Vesta laughed her off at first, but the more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea!  She got certified right away.  She loves everything about group fitness; the music, the movements, the people.  She loves how it brings people together, creates relationships, and challenges people to push themselves.  She loves being their cheerleader and their coach.  “Fitness changes lives!”

Vesta teaches kindergarten at Mill Creek Elementary and has taught in Columbia for 9 years.  She has a wonderful husband, Phil, who loves coming to her Saturday classes and being in the front row!  They have a two year-old son, Auggie, who might be a BodyPump instructor some day!  She is a health food nut and enjoys talking about healthy eating.

Either one of these instructors may be teaching the class:

Haley Boyd is certified in YogaFit Level 1 and started teaching Aerial Hammock Sequencing and Conditioning at Wilson’s in 2018.  She discovered yoga during college, and aerial soon after.  She has trained in aerial silks, aerial hammock, aerial hoop (Lyra), and pole fitness.  She chose to become an instructor because she wanted to share her knowledge and passion for aerial.  “Aerial has given me strength and confidence that I would never have achieved with more conventional workouts.”  Through teaching, she is given an opportunity to share her knowledge with others with the hope that aerial can give them the same joy it has given her.

Haley loves watching her students grow; for her, there is nothing more exciting than watching a student meet a new goal or master a trick that they were unable to do the week before.  She wants her members to know that aerial is extremely challenging but it is also extremely rewarding.  It can be frustrating and difficult (especially in the beginning), but if you stick with it, not only will you gain strength and flexibility, you will also acquire a really unique and fulfilling skill.

Cortney Hutson joined the Wilson’s team in 2018.  Holding her YogaFit Level 1, she currently teaches Aerial Hammock Conditioning.  She danced through high school and entertained bursts of fitness throughout life, but had no lasting interest in fitness until trying aerial silks.  The artistry combined with athleticism appealed to her.  Since becoming an aerialist, she has begun cross training with yoga, weightlifting, and running.

Cortney wanted to become an instructor to show people that fitness is for everyone.  “People are often intimidated by the gym to the point that they feel they need to become fit before they can come to the gym to get fit.”  The supportive environment of group classes takes away some of the pressure of coming to the gym.  Cortney wouldn’t be nearly as fit as she is without the encouragement of some amazing instructors – and she wants to pass that same feeling long to others.  What she loves most about teaching is the moment when something “clicks” for a participant and they nail a pose or trick for the very first time.  She wants her members to know that fitness isn’t about how much you weigh or how much you can lift; its a commitment to making the healthiest choices for your physical and mental health.

Patty has been teaching at Wilson’s since 2015. She completed her 200 RYT and is certified in Stages Indoor Cycling and Flight, and Les Mills RPM and BodyPump.  She currently teaches Fusion, Gentle Flow, Hot Barre, RPM, Flight, and BodyPump.  Patty was not a “fitness” person until she started attending Wilson’s as a member in 2014, realizing she needed to focus on her health.  She started taking a yoga class one day a week and loved how it made her feel; how much more productive she was after just one class a week.  Later that year, she took Fusion and knew after just two classes that she wanted to teach it.  She also started running in 2014, with the goal of running a half marathon.  Patty completed her first half marathon in October of that year.

I want to provide that individual with the absolute best workout experience so that they will continue to take that time for them!”

Kelie Morgan

Kelie holds certifications in Les Mills BodyStep, BodyPump, BodyAttack, GRIT, BodyFlow, and CXWorX, and has completed YogaFit Levels 1, 2, and 3. She is also a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF) and has her USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach and has achieved her CrossFit Level 1 certification.

Always athletic, Kelie was active in sports when she was younger, but didn’t discover group fitness until after she had her second baby and needed to get 60 pounds of pregnancy off. She started attending BodyStep and was instantly hooked. “The endorphins and the adrenaline were real and so were the results!” Less than  year later, she went to her first training. That was in 2008 and she’s been teaching multiple classes every week since. Currently, Kelie teaches Fusion, BodyStep, and TRX/Kettle Circuit.

At first, becoming an instructor was about the challenge of doing something far outside of her comfort zone. But once she started, it became more about her members. “I realized that I could help them and lift them, even if it was just for one hour a day. It was clear to me then, that this was not just a hobby or a fun pastime for me, it was my passion.”

Kelie wants her participants to know that she has been where they have been.; she’s been overweight and out of shape, she’s been injured, overworked and overstressed. She knows the reasons that stop them from taking that first scary step into the group fitness studio. But she promises, “I will be there to welcome you, introduce you to a friend and above all else, give you a great workout!”

High-intensity interval training (HIIT), one of the hottest fitness trends on the planet, is the fastest way to get fit and in shape. Short, sharp bursts of effort allow you to reach maximum training zones and that’s the secret to athletic performance.

Eric Blumberg

Eric started teaching at Wilson’s in 2013, when he became certified in Les Mills GRIT.  An ACE-Certified Personal Trainer, he also taught Les Mills CxWorX and BodyPump for a time, but then decided to focus solely on his first love… GRIT, which he dubs “the toughest workout in the gym”.  Eric likes to be challenged to push his personal limits and so he brings that same feeling to his classes.  He challenges his GRIT family to push themselves past what they think they can do to reach their next level of fitness.

Eric doesn’t call what he does ‘teaching’ class… instead, he’s ‘coaching’ class.  He’s encouraging and motivating his class to reach new heights.  When class is done, he enjoys getting to know his participants better so it feels like a family.  People in his class ask where someone is when a regular doesn’t make it.  Eric also runs a GRIT Facebook page called Wilson’s GRIT Athletes, where he posts articles about the benefits of HIIT (high intensity interval training) and why it’s great for you.  In the summer, he holds GRIT at the Beach Club; a special class outside where participants earn a free day for themselves and a friend at the Beach Club.

Mo started at Wilson’s in January 2018 and currently teaches Studio Barre, Chair Yoga, and Zumba.  Her certifications include her RYT-200 and Zumba, and she has been teaching since June 2016.  Mo began teaching so she could share her passion for finding fun ways to stay fit and help others understand how the body works.  She loves showing people different ways to achieve something.  “You can adapt anything to fit your body!”

Mo grew up playing multiple sports (swimming, gymnastics, soccer, competitive softball), practicing yoga, working with personal trainers, and participating in a variety of group fitness classes.  She has been active her whole life, beginning in the womb.  Her mother was a Jazzercise and aerobics instructor, teaching right up until Mo was born; in fact, she was on her way to teach a class when Mo decided they needed to make a detour to the hospital … so you could say she was born to teach!

Theron wanted to be an instructor to help others achieve goals that they want in their lives that they weren’t able to achieve on their own, at their current fitness level.  He likes to help others and give them his professional instruction to help them succeed; becoming an instructor was a good way to pursue that.  He has been active the majority of his life and enjoys all types of physical activity.  He wanted to help others become healthier and stronger in their lives.  Now what he loves most about teaching is seeing his participants and clients grow to become stronger and more confident versions of themselves.  He finds it very rewarding to see a transformation in someone both physically and in their self-esteem.

Either of these instructors may be teaching this class.

Lacey Sweeten Randall started at Wilson’s in 2017 and is currently teaching Aerial Yoga, Aerial 101, Aerial Silks Level 1, Board Balance, and BodyFlow.  Her certifications include 250 hours Aerial Yoga Training through Aerial Yoga Academy and Les Mills BodyFlow.  Lacey used to hate working out or pretty much any kind of fitness or sport.  After college, she tried out a few gyms with little success… until 2015 when she discovered Wilson’s and her first fitness love – aerial silks.  The challenge to both mind and body combined with an amazing support system surrounding the classes finally helped her find her love of fitness.

Lacey became an instructor because she wanted to support others in their fitness goals like her instructors had done for her.  She loves the community in the group fitness classes.  She looks forward to coming to her classes to get a whole workout, share her knowledge, and also for the social experience.  Lacey encourages everyone to try a class that is outside of their comfort zones.  “Many times I’ve had people tell me that they had wanted to try an aerial class or board balance but were intimidated.  Please don’t be!  These classes are open to EVERYBODY for a reason.  Come try them out!”

Laura Sobieck made a lifestyle change. After having children, she worked hard to lose 40 lbs. and in the process developed a love for fitness; especially group classes. She then went from participating to teaching at Wilson’s when she obtained her certification in Les Mills BodyPump in January 2012.  She followed with certifications in GRIT in March 2013 and BodyFlow in 2018..  She currently teaches BodyFlow and Board Balance.

Though she had no formal training, as she became active in fitness and progressed to instructing, she educated herself about nutrition and exercise philosophies like martial arts, HIIT, Pilates, weight training, TRX, yoga, and Tabata. Laura doesn’t have just one preferred method of working out. She tried to incorporate a wide variety of cross training into her own workouts.

“I love being a part of people’s daily routine in the group setting and encouraging them to achieve their own fitness goals–whether that be just starting out, moving to another level, or trying something new.”
